Run a scan for malware using the Junkware Removal Tool and then AdwCleaner. Reboot after each. Back up your important data to an external source and then update your BIOS by running this file and following the instructions0

What data do I need to back up? Will I lose data by running the BIOS file if I don't? I just have updates on my pc, that have previously hung at 2% and not installed, but I don't want to make a mess of thing.0 -
Do you have an external hard drive? Portable or otherwise? It is always useful in that you can remove the contents of your hard drive to an external source and to be able to replace them at will.
Otherwise you are hampering your ability to fix problems in a relatively short time. You spend more time faffing around worrying about what you might lose.0 -
Yes I have a HD, but not sure what i'm meant to save on there, or more to the point, will anything remove itself from my pc anyway.
I tried the Junkware Removal tool, not sure if it did anything. A black box appeared and asked if I wanted to reboot, said yes and laptop just hung and had to press button to log off, The black box was still there on reboot, so I rebooted again ant it went. I'm just not hugely confident with doing stuff on the laptop and don't want things to be all over the place, like the user in the other thread I quoted. Usually updates install with no problem, not sure if I should just give it a go and stop the spoolervers.exe file first?0
