The install of an update hangs?

Go into task manager and stop spoolsv.exe

Worked for me, install then continues.

    I can't find spoolsv.exe.

I clicked 'stop update' but the icon is still there in taskbar and still says 2sb. Last time I logged off it said 'don't turn off c, installing updates' etc, so I clicked the power button on laptop and that just crashes it!

    I hate technology!

    Task manager - Processes - spoolsv.exe

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/o...7-7303ddc4dcdf

All I had to do to fix this was run Task Manager, click the "Show processes from all users" icon, and end the "spoolsv.exe" process. Have Windows Update running so you can install the update as soon as you close the "spoolsv.exe", because this service will automatically restart itself in a short time.

Hi. I earlier had an alert saying I had 25 Windows Updates to install. I clicked to install and the first one installing appeared to be a System Pack 1, but after an hour it had only got to 2%.

it may have been this one, which I got yesterday, for IE 10, it installed no problem.

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (KB2879017), you should find the KB number in your updates if it was the culprit.

I had over 20 as well, but I only do 4 or 5 at a time, check machine, then add more, sometimes over a few days.

Thanks for your advice again. I've not long come online and not tried the updates again yet, but see there is another thread with the same problem https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4788098

As well as ending the 'spoolsv.exe' should I also go into Windows Explorer and untick the NET framework updates as its been said on the other thread that they are the ones that take hours.

I just wondered what ending the spoolsv.exe process will do as it warns of an unstable system or do I enable it again after updates?

It will affect printing while it is stopped, but is starts up again on it's own.

You may need to stop it a few times is starts up again while updates are still hanging while installing.

I left mine running for over 6 hours and the installs never got past 2% and computer finished up all over the place, had to do a system restore to get my computer working something like, still showing I have 19 updates to install but dare'nt do so I case I finish up in trouble again

I've left it till now to try the updates incase it takes forever, but I first turned on laptop only, no router and it said there were 3 updates, so I downloaded them, but when router connected online 23 updates were there again. I went to process and 'show processes for all users, but I added the quote above from the user on the other Win Updates thread and am worried trying these installs will mess up my system. Laptop crashes when I close down as I have to press power button as going to 'start' and then 'shut down' auto starts the update installation.
