    Quite right.
The rant is about people driving at 40 in a 60 REGARDLESS of the conditions. i.e. people being completely oblivious to their surroundings and the effect they are having on other traffic.
There are other reasons for doing 40 in a 60.
For many vehicles the speed limit is 40mph when it is 60mph for you in your car (not a lot of people know this).
The vehicle might not be able to go more than 40, either physically or safely.

People being completely oblivious to their surroundings and the effect they are having on other traffic are not driving with due care and attention. They are everywhere, and are not restricted to doing 40 in a 60.

I often have to do 40 in a 60 limit as i have trouble dunking my chicken nuggets into my BBQ sauce pot if I am travelling at too high a speed.

Good to see someone taking a responsible attitude to road safety.

People who drive right at the speed limit whilst trying to eat their dinner infuriate me.

There's no reason why they can't slow down a little while they eat their corn on the cob.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

just because you can drive at 60 if the road is empty doesn't mean that you should always do that
Yes you should. Thats what speed limits are for. They tell you how fast to drive. How else would drivers know. I wuz taught that on my test.

I would hope you were taught that BEFORE your test, not ON your test. ;)
  • When I was out on a lesson with my instructor about ten years ago I overtook a girl having her test (the instructor knew the examiner). She was doing about 25mph getting onto a quiet dual carriageway.

My instructor told me there would be no chance she would be passing that test, she is making a dangerous obstacle of herself and would be receiving a major. Whether or not this is true I don't know but I think there certainly is too slow.
    Thinking critically since 1996....

my pet hate is when drivers think other people are bad drivers for not being as impatient and speedy as them..

travelling at 50 in a 60 is in no way incompetant it just makes me think of the impatient twerp eager to do that extra ten miles an hour as a bad and selfish driver for not considering other road users

speed limits are NOT an indication of speed you SHOULD travel.. but a MAXIMUM that you CAN..

NO WAY. You have to drive fast to prove you're a good driver.
