This is the one I got

    http://www.dry-it-out.com/mitsubishi-MJ-E14CG-E1-dehumidifier&P.HouseSize=86

Its not cheap but wanted a quiet reliable one, slim line and cheap to run. It still has a compressor but its quiet and works in cold areas and will also filter air. Quiet pleased with it just had it over a week now MIL got one too

Well it seems my first unit had a fault. Not a great start, but breathingspace.co.uk have been brilliant. I explained the behaviour and they agreed it sounds faulty and offered to swap for a new unit on Monday.

So I guess Monday I will see how it's going to work out!

Oh no! Hope you get it sorted soon.

Mine (the same model) has just been delivered. Very impressed with the delivery company who deliver in a 1 hour time slot.

The machine is as light as a feather. I googled to find out how loud 34dBA is and the answer was "a little louder than a whisper" (ariba10 had freaked me out with the concord story! lol) Can't wait to get it home and plug it in. I'll let you know how it goes.

I am not too bothered if it is more expensive to run as, as lstar says, it will not have to be on as long. On another thread on here someone reckoned a desiccant machine uses as much electricity as a big telly. I would rather turn off the telly and not be ill from spore allergy. I have a week off work next week to sort this out. Marigolds and Dettol m&m remover at the ready. If we can fix the root cause too, it will be brilliant :D

It is quiet. In turbo mode, it's a bit like the air heater in my car set to about half way, in eco mode, it's barely audible. You would want it in eco mode if you were watching telly in the same room.

You have made the right choice, dessicant is the way forward.

I have the same job to do at some point, but I have to invite the landlord around to see it before I clean it up. Complaints don't have as much impact when the damage has been repaired!

cod3, any news on your unit yet?

I have just got my replacement, I'm trying it in the office again, but it seems to behave like the first one.

I would love to hear how yours operates.

    Hi lstar337

I ran mine on turbo on Friday evening at about 55% humidity. I positioned it in our downstairs hall outside the bathroom and kitchen with all the interior doors open. I don't know how long it ran for as I fell asleep. When I woke up it had collected 2 litres and turned itself off.

The next morning, after DD had a shower, I put it on a lower setting, about 75%, and it wouldn't switch on. I freaked out as I thought it was broken. Turns out that it would not switch on as 75% had already been achieved. It would only kick in when the dial was turned on past the current 55% humidity. Will keep it at that level as I read it is the optimum %

    What are your symptoms?

    Well I have mine.

Not sure its operating correctly, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

So far it seems to be shutting down due to heat a lot, but that could just be because it is rather warm in our office at the moment, and there is not much air movement.

Tonight will be the big test.

The manual says: Operating Temperature Range: 1ºC - 35ºC, so I can't see temperature being a problem. Is your office tiny? It says in the manual not to use in small, unventilated rooms.

I keep mine on around 65%. so anywhere between 50-70% should be okay,.Bare in mind as you have heating on probably wont come on as much as a warm house can hold more moisture

OK, this is how I had it set up.

In the sitting room of our flat, which has 2 adjoining bedrooms. Bedroom doors were ajar, so ~120m3 of space. We have a digital clock which also tells us the relative humidity, temperature, etc. last night it was 77% RH at 21c.

I set the unit up in roughly the middle of the room, put it into laundry mode (just to rule out the humidistat as a cause), set it to eco, and let it run.

Just as the first unit did, it ran for ~6mins, cut out, and the check light came on. It then stayed in that state for ~6mins before returning to operation. It does this over and over, which means for every ~12 minutes it is turned on, it only operates for ~6. In turbo mode this behaviour is exaggerated, it operates for ~1.45mins and then shuts off for ~8mins.

I decided to let it run all night last night, and by 7am (12 hours turned on) it had collected this:

    u3bg.jpg

For a unit that is meant to collect ~7l a day, I find this amount over 12hours to be disappointing.

Trouble is, this is the second unit I have had that behaves this way. I find it hard to believe I have been unlucky enough to have two faulty units delivered, let alone with exactly the same fault.

So where am I going wrong? :(

If anyone could confirm that their unit will operate continuously (longer than 6mins in eco, or 2mins in turbo), that would be a real help. I think I am going to ring Ecoair at some point too. breathingspace.co.uk have been so good with the replacement, I don't want to pester them again unless I know that there is something really wrong.

Office is about 45m3, but I had the door open, so it wasn't confined.

The reason I mentioned temperature, is that I can hear a click just before it shuts off, which I assume is its internal thermostat.

The ambient in the office is nowhere near 1ºC or 35ºC though.

    Hi lstar337

I can confirm that mine runs continuously until the bucket is full/until desired humidity is achieved. Whichever comes first. Have it on now.

I am assuming that you have done all the troubleshooting checks - not siting it next to a radiator, your bucket is not out of whack etc. I think phoning or emailing Ecoair technical support is your only option.

Weird that you would get two duds  Did the replacement unit still have two pieces of tape holding the bucket in place to suggest it was brand new and not a return?
