Aldi dehumidier

Morning everyone
Just been into Aldi and noticied they have a dehumidifier on sale for £129 was wondering if anyone had bought one already and whether it's any good. Have been thinking of getting one for a while to combat condensation and this seems a good price.
Thanks

I can't help with the actual question, but this may be of interest. We recently got one from Tesco Direct. It's a Delonghi one at about £125 on their website. We did the double up on the clubcard vouchers and got it for half of that in vouchers - zero cash. It works really well. We don't have dampness but with the cooler weather and no heating on yet we felt as if the washing wasn't drying and that it could create dampness. It's also very wet where we live (west of Scotland) so I'm sure they're quite popular here even without any actual dampness problems.

My sister bought one last week from ALDI to replace a broken Delonghi. So far I have heard positive things - did 3.7 litres in about 7.5 hours and has been good for drying clothes. Only thing they mentioned was it is a little noisy but I haven't heard it so don't know if this means it just makes some noise (like they all do) or it is actually noisy.

I'd say the specs and warranty for the money make it a good buy.

lesley74 - we live in the same soggy place as you lol

How noisy should we expect a dehumidifier to be? Like a fan heater, for example?

Yes, that's a good comparison. Ours is a Mitsubishi and makes about that level of noise.

Our dehumidifier lives upstairs and it is plugged in to a timer so that it cannot come on while we are in bed.

Before the timer it sounded like concord, if it kicked in at night.

Sound not noticeable during the day.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

They certain help cut down on condensation which is made worse with modern living. You can cut down on this if you air the house when possible opening windows especially when bathing, cooking but also not dry wet clothe on rads. On plus side they can cut down on condensation which is usually seen on windows and external walls etc

On plus side they do warm the house slightly too. I being using one for years I only just replaced my old one mainly due to noise from the compressor. I suffer from ill health and in past in my student days I lived in a damp flat made me seriously ill at the time.

Mould spors are bad for you so make sure you clean them with appropriate cleaner, bleach in some cases will do

We got a Meaco DD8L which cost about that and works a treat. Its a desiccant dehumidifier so works well at low temperatures (which they say is 15 degrees!) compared to the refrigerant type so that might be a consideration given where you are.

They are fantastic for us - our conservatory has bad ventilation and gets mould but with the dehumidifier on even at its lowest setting it doesn't. You'll need to clean off the existing mould first mind or even better fix the ventilation or heating issues you have.

I looked at the Aldi unit, but there wasn't enough data to go on.

    I bought this instead: http://www.breathingspace.co.uk/home-dehumidifiers/dd122fw-simple-dehumidifier

It's a good price, and free next day delivery.

I'll be testing it tonight so I'll let you know if there are any problems.
