Doesn't look like the consumer can contact Trading Standards directly the first port of call is now Citizens Advice who pass on your info to TS whereby you are lucky if they take on your case.

Not good for the consumer that's for sure while Citizens Advice is moderately helpful it's voluntary "Dads Army" style of approach is hardly likely to put fear in the boots of unscrupulous traders like the class act I am dealing with here.

Not sure why the Government have down scaled Trading Standards, maybe to do with cutbacks, whatever it's made life way more difficult for me and my situation the system seems like it needs a seriously major overhaul as it's not going far enough to help vulnerable people right now......despite your "Consumer rights" there is no one out there who can genuinely help you or bring to book these rogue companies that are openly flouting the law.

Also contact watchdog , guardian money, telegraph money & Mail money who might be able to put pressure on these crooks to refund you!

    Hey folks

quick update, i've been away on holiday for a few weeks but i'm back now so it's business as normal.

Managed to make contact with Ben via telephone. He has assured me that his agent has lodged a claim against the courier company for damage to the projector whilst in transit. Apparently the box and two of the polystyrene supports were damaged/broken (as well as the projector) when the package arrived in Singapore.

i am currently awaiting the outcome of this, bare in mind that i made the purchase on January 14th and that the item was returned within 14 days of that period as it was faulty on arrival.

I will update again as soon as i know more but as yet i have no refund or replacement unit.

    Regards

    Darren
  • Hi Darren and everyone,
I kept phoning, and got a refund two days later than it was first promised. Hope all works out for you.

Looks like Tiptop Electronics have also been dropped by Trusted Shops that has to tell you everything!
  • I find it hard to believe these c0wb0ys are still advertising & how long they are allowed to drag their feet for!

It wouldn't surprise me if TipFlop themselves have withdrawn from that scheme, because of the bad press/negative comments. They've deleted all the negative stuff from their F/B page & closed it for posts & feedback. lol

Good luck with your claim, Darren.
  • Hi Darren,
Just wondering if you ever succeeded in getting a refund?
I am going through a very similar battle... it has already lasted 4 months and I'm not about to give up any time soon.
My friend placed an order on their website & paid with his debit card. He never received the item, nor indeed ever any notification that the item had ever even shipped.
After multiple emails & calls we eventually managed to speak to Ben, but he simply told us a pack of lies about how their had been problems with the payment and we should get a refund via the bank! The bank & WorldPay quite rightly state that the transaction went through and the company should issue a refund.
I'm not giving up until we rightly get the money back.
We have emailed Watchdog, the Guardian consumer affairs and The Times. We also emailed Trading Standards via the Citizen Advice Bureau. I hope that they receive sufficient numbers of complaints that this company is rightly shut down, and that Ben is never permitted to trade again.
My friend has learnt his lesson about paying with debit card. Wish that we had come across this thread sooner!
I wonder how many other people will make a similar honest mistake and lose their money to this scam of a company.
I'd be happy to join forces with you!

    Hey Karen!

Sorry to hear about the issues that you are having. How the hell this company is still trading I have no idea but there doesn't seem to be any relevant force that can stop them, it's incredible that in this day and age it is possible to setup a company, take people's money and give them nothing in return they a total lying scam of an outfit, trying to walk the Amazon walk and failing miserably!

    Anyway quick update:

I took them to court online and they submitted no defence so received an automatic judgement against them. I asked for my money to be paid immediately which (surprise, surprise!) never happened so decided to issue a warrant and call in the bailiffs.
Being the nice guy that I am I thought it only fair to call and give them the option to settle up first. Ben agreed that he would offer to pay £1,000 tomorrow (today) and then £1,000 a week in instalments until the debt was cleared. I kept an eye on my account to see if the money had been paid in but no, again no money so I called Ben to see what was going on and he assured me that it would be in tomorrow, ha ha more of his incessant lies they roll off his tongue like a lumber jack slipping off a log!
So anyways, enough is enough I issued the warrant tonight I would like to see the look on his face when he hears that thump on the door!

But whatever happens, even if the bailiffs don't retrieve what I am owed my next plan is to take the matter to my local court and have a freeze put on their assets so that any incoming cash is paid to my account, I really will not stop until I have run this circus out of business, well that's unless they pay me my money of course!
  • Hi Darren,
I was hoping that someone like "Watchdog" or indeed trading standards would get involved.. Rogue traders indeed.
I hate seeing my friend ripped off - his is thankfully less of an amount than you are owed - but £300 is still a significant scam. I'm not one to be pushed over by a pack of lies either... we too will be filing with the small claims court if we fail to get a refund in the next couple of weeks.
Its only the fact that we are honest and reasonable people that we have given them 5 months to resolve this already.
Would like to be a fly on the wall when Ben gets his surprise!
Guess it would be good if we could get everyone who has been ripped off, to make collective action.. I've read plenty of negative reviews, so there must be a sufficient group out there..
    Good luck!

    Hey Karen

Yes I'm interested to see what we could do as a collective there must be something that can be done and if we join forces that should give us a lot more clout.

I will inbox you my contact details so we can discuss the way forward

    Kind regards
