If you search around the 'net under `problems` it appears they are just drop-shippers/importers (well actually suppliers, as it's the buyer who is classed as the importer) & trade under a few different names.
It does seem that they are possibly run from India?
Hope you get your money back Darren.0 -
Check out: tiptopelectronics.co.uk and it says "100% UK owned"
Now have a look at their New Zealand site: tiptopelectronics.co.nz and note the similarities. Note also that it says "100% NZ owned".
Check out the Australian site too: tiptopelectronics.com.au Yup, you guessed it. "100% AU owned".

I think they also operate in S.A. too
Funny how Ben Broome denied Dhruv Chopra was anything to do with him (D&B Technologies?) in that thread on Talk Photography, which someone posted a link to near the beginning of this thread.

The sooner the authorities/HMRC get their teeth into these cowboys, the better the consumer will be!0 -

I'm doing my best to raise awareness if anyone else can learn from my experience then all the stress, hassle and (possible, watch this space!)!financial loss will not have been in vain.
I will not stop until I obtain a satisfactory result this company has so many complaints and someone needs to take a stand.
Many thanks to anyone who makes a contribution to help me here
Kind regards

I have ordered a camera from this firm. I want to cancel because I no longer trust them to stick to the same story. I paid by direct banking. I asked for a refund yesterday, and was told that the camera was being shipped today. With no confirmation of this I asked again to cancel and was asked for my bank details. I supplied these, ( I know that this is something I shouldn't do but was told that they needed them to pay back.) I then received a phone call from Ben Broome who told me that I can't cancel because it has been shipped, and that there is no point contacting the police because I bought the camera online.
He did not seem to be aware of cooling off regulations. The point is that I don't want this camera now. The pleasure in the purchase has evaporated because of the lack of trust in this business.
Let me put it this way. I understand the difficulties of setting up and running a business but they still have to operate within the law. I need to get my money back so that I can buy from a reputable seller. I wouldn't buy from this lot again.0 -
Good luck, hopefully the camera will arrive and you will have no problem.....sure their prices are keen but it's not worth the risk you CANNOT believe a word they say and contrary to their reassurance on their website, communication is virtually non existence which is great and really inspires ones confidence!
I called them a couple of days ago, twice and there was no answer, I rang a third time but with held my number and guess what?....almost immediately they picked up! This "company" is a total joke.0 -
Quick update
I just popped in to the local Police station for some advice and they suggested trading standards.
Will give them a call and see what transpires.
Looking forward to hearing back from Trustedshops of which TipTop are a member ( I know, don't laugh!) they assured me that they can normally resolve these kind of situations so let's see what happens.0 -
Doesn't look like the consumer can contact Trading Standards directly the first port of call is now Citizens Advice who pass on your info to TS whereby you are lucky if they take on your case.
Not good for the consumer that's for sure while Citizens Advice is moderately helpful it's voluntary "Dads Army" style of approach is hardly likely to put fear in the boots of unscrupulous traders like the class act I am dealing with here.
Not sure why the Government have down scaled Trading Standards, maybe to do with cutbacks, whatever it's made life way more difficult for me and my situation the system seems like it needs a seriously major overhaul as it's not going far enough to help vulnerable people right now......despite your "Consumer rights" there is no one out there who can genuinely help you or bring to book these rogue companies that are openly flouting the law.0 -
I've been watching this thread with interest. I sincerely hope you get your money back, if needs be, why not go down to their 'office' and get the refund there and then?!
As a tip to anyone buying anything from anyone, avoid direct bank transfers at ALL costs!0 -
