It was a joke, well the Interpol bit anyway
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • There was certainly some "unconventional" packing and I wasn't best pleased at dirty things being thrown in with clean things and so I have to clean those things again unnecessarily (as far as I am concerned).

Re "payback" for them...well if "thoughts are things" those two guys will be wondering for the rest of their lives why they seem to have developed digestive problems and just cant get rid of them;):). I hope they feel as ill as they deserve to.

EDIT: I very much doubt the thief was a "passing stranger" in the event. The van was right outside my front door and I was trying to keep an eye on that too and certainly watching it closely at the time they went off to buy themselves a snack whilst packing.

I've often been surprised at just how thick some people are. I've certainly had someone I didn't know very well at all round for a "social call" years ago and realised the next day they had stolen my "real" jewellery. I expect they didn't bargain on the fact that I would find a way to get hold of their address and send the police round to visit them. I got the address, sent the police round and they handed my jewellery back to the police....thick as two short planks or what.....

Really? You sent the police round to accuse someone of theft just on your sayso? Wow I never realised they offered such a service.
I hope you get your item back, but I do find it very distressing the way you are determined to label the removers thieves. As for distraction techniques and casing the joint, surely as they were doing all the packing this would be totally unnecessary? It's far more likely it has been mislaid, either by you or them.
  • money - let us know what the outcome is. You do seem very sure that these items have been stolen, sounds like with good reason. Unfortunately you just can't trust everyone these days.

If I stated what had been stolen, then the appeal to removal men would be obvious. It certainly was to a poster I PM'ed when I told them.

As a friend of mine said "You're pretty meticulous...you would definitely know" and I have been through everything again and again with a fine toothcomb looking for these things. I would very much prefer to think the items had just been mislaid...but when you have gone through literally every single possession you own...then you know it aint down to you unfortunately.:(

I don't like thinking this has happened to me or that I was naïve enough to allow myself to get engaged in conversation (ie distraction techniques) by one of them whilst packing. No-one in their 60s wants to think they might still be naïve at times:(

Well if you have unpacked every box that you had packed and its not there then you have definitely had your items stolen, if you were watched packing those items then distracted you know what their game was , I expect theyve done this loads of times to other people , but you knew you were distracted for that very reason now , you were distracted when valuable items were being packed , what were of value to re sell on ...............

Im sure id know to if something went missing quickly like in your case.........Espeically when you done your own packing , and dont have a lot of clutter..........Ive been lucky everytime weve moved we have hired a van and done it ourselves , thats mainly because its usually been under 10 miles that weve moved..............

How far have you got with the removal firm ?..........

I think if you read the thread carefully you'll see that money didn't do her own packing - the removal firm did......

    It wasn't !!!!!!....

    I've sent you a PM

Can I have a PM too? I am dying to know what it is! :p

    Hope it turns up.
  • PM duly sent...

I've not heard back yet from the firm concerned. I guess they are waiting for an opportunity to quiz the men concerned about it first and then I'll get a response from them (hopefully a cheque for what they owe me).
