Game Console Game Question

  • My two pence worth here.

I'm playing GTA 5 on my xbox 360 which was a launch day console all those many years ago!

OP, I don't know if it will make a difference or not, try installing the game onto a USB flash drive instead of the hard drive (my hard drive was out of room and the flash drive was my only option).

You'll need to format it first in the system menu on the dashboard if you haven't done it before! Just make sure it's got a good read/write speed as not all flash drives are made equally ;)

No, I don't think so. There is nothing wrong with the game, the issue is with your outdated hardware.

I believe you have two options, wait for a fix or sell it second hand and recoup as much of your money as you can.
are you on drugs? a launch 360 will run the same games as the 360 darth vada

uninstall the play disc apprantly it slows ghe game down.
im having problems with it freezing when atempting to join a lobby

Why would the fact he is stating the issue is with the Xbox rather than the game mean he is on drugs.. strange comment!

I'm guessing that they have not installed the play disc.. it does state not to anyway.

The issues you are having are with the online section which has just launched so is not the same as the OP.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for all your replies. A few little bits;

I started off not installing the play disc as instructed, and the game was freezing.

I then tried installing the play disc as advised by a guide, apparently suggested by Microsoft, and the I'm having the same issue. (I cant put a hyperlink in due to site policy, a bit of googling can find it)

I havn't tried the USB drive option, as I don't have any big enough/fast enough ones available at the moment, i'll see if I can borrow one to try it.

I have a 120GB harddrive, with 80GB free, so I wouldn't think fragmentation would be an issue. My xbox isn't chipped or had any modifications etc. I have literally never had any problems playing games before on it, including games like Max Payne 3 and LA Noire (Both from the same games publisher) and Black Ops 2 and Battlefield 3.

The PC analogy is an interesting one, but part of the reason I like console gaming (up until now) is that you don't have to upgrade them. I must have spent £100s on my PC over the years after getting a new game and not being able to run it. The mad thing is though, I can remember back in the days of electronics boutique taking a game back, saying I couldn't run it on my PC, and the guys going "Sorry mate, return it and here is a store voucher for what you paid for the game"

And you're the one asking if I am on drugs? :rotfl:

Back on topic, if it's not the OP's hardware what is the problem?
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • I would say its not the game's fault it's the console's fault! It claims to play all Xbox 360 games but it doesn't.

It's a work around because the original hard drives supplied with the 360's are too bloody small and were too expensive to buy a bigger one.

Turns out the OP has a 120GB hard drive.. so he has an original shape, it's just his console is newer than mine, so I blame the hardware rather than the software in this instance.

May need improved ventillation or something...

I don't think its fair to say its the consoles fault. The game should be designed to work on the console not the console designed to play a game that may come out in 7 years time, that's impossible. The game designers should have made the game to work within the limitations of the console.

The console is not getting particularly hot, however i've not tried pointing a fan at it or anything. I'm not sure if the USB stick method is purely for hard drive size, or whether the read speed of a USB stick is higher than the Xbox's HDD or CD drive. Looks like I might have to fork out on a decent USB drive to see if it helps.

EDIT: Looks like the read speed of the DVD drive should be at least 15mbps, and the HDD theoretically should be much higher.
