Are you familiar with Russel's Teapot?

Not normally used in this sort of context but .............

You want me to supply you with proof because what I'm saying isn't enough and I should be backing up what I'm saying? :rotfl:

Clearly it's your choice what fuel you use and whatever you choose I wish you years of happy motoring.

He's either winding you up, he's making it up, or he doesn't have a clue what he is talking about.

No. Stop trolling and pretend to be a copper. You dont know him. Dont presume too much. Makes you look silly.

No, I'm saying a nod and a wink and a tap on the side of the nose from someone who knows someone that once worked near a fuel refinery is not enough evidence for me to consider worrying about which outlet I buy my diesel from.

If that level of evidence works for you, roll with it

BTW, we did put a man on the moon, it wasn't all a big conspiracy
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

We are now at pantomime level.

Russel's teapot is a sound concept for this argument.

BTW, I don't believe that the USA (not we, by any manner of means) sent any men to the moon.

Cue someone to cry "Oh, yes we/they did."

    There is no evidence.

Eg. Shell can't even prove their own FuelSave advertising claims - remember the old "FuelSave saves you up to 1ltr of fuel per tank? Shell's test: sample size of 10 cars (4 of them available in the UK), and 6 "had the potential to save 2% of fuel or more" (ASA Adjudication on Shell UK Ltd)

They had a very similar FuelSave and V-Power advertising campaign in Germany and Holland back in 2011: FuelSave up to 1 litre of fuel saved per tank, and V-Power up to 1 litre of fuel saved and "cleans and increases engine performance". Following the German advertising standards agency enquiries Shell stopped claiming any fuel saving and performance increasing properties. They are still allowed to say that V-Power is designed to "clean your engine" (well, technically diesel fuel cleans every engine anyway): "designed to act immediately against engine deposits".

What do you think happens? The tanker driver trundles up with a tanker full of petrol and then squirts in a few litres of additives before pumping the product into the tanks? :D

The additives do get added at the depot during loading and not the petrol station during delivery.

That is exactly what happens by some companies.

If, say, standard diesel was measurably better from one of the multi nationals than was available from the supermarkets, why aren't they shouting this from the rooftops and backing it up with some double blind research.
Why wouldn't someone like Shell do that? In fact they'd be remiss not to do so.
Has any one got any proof that one standard diesel is any better or worse than another?*

    * a mate who used to know someone that worked at the refinery doesn't count

It's quite simple. Who do you think are the oil companies biggest customers?

They wouldn't have to supply the 'ins and out' of their fuel, that's not how comparative advertising works, they'd merely need to show the results of some double blind testing and details of how the testing was done.

If it's not a whim, it must be evidence, what is this evidence?

This has been done by independent organisations. One example is the Fifth Gear test on premium fuels. You can find this on youtube.

Don't accuse me of trolling, just because you don't agree with me.

When have I ever claimed to be a copper?? :rotfl::rotfl:

It doesn't take much intelligence to know that all petrol burns violently, regardless of grade. He is winding you up, and you fell for it hook, line, and sinker. :rotfl::rotfl:

Well use whatever fuel you want, nobody is trying to change which fuel you use. But just because you choose to use supermarket fuel, it doesn't mean that it isn't of a lower grade than branded fuels.
