Sb44 - how did you get on?
Calicocat - that would be most impressive to make!
Vernall - I did a one egg mix (so 1 egg, 50g of sugar, stork and self raising flour, plus tw odrops of vanilla extract) then I just put a heaped tablespoon in each well and although I got five cakes I could have been a bit more generous and then had four thicker cakes. They took about four mins and I just tested with a cocktail stick.2019, move forward with positivity! I am the opposite of Eyeore :rotfl:0 -

I still haven't flippin' made any.
My husband is having a very healthy eating week so I know he won't eat any, we have a few bars of dark choc (thanks to Lidl last week), so my daughter will be having some of that, so I will end up eating most myself if they turn out ok.
I suppose I could freeze some or put them out for the birds!
Hey, that is an idea.
Make some and let harden then thread a piece of string through a few, the birds will be able to sit on them whilst they feed.0 -
Could someone possibly copy & paste the recipe and instructions on to here as I cannot get on to the website?

How about a fun new recipe to celebrate the beginning of the new year? Have you ever thought of making a cake in a sandwich maker? It is so easy & quick that just takes a few minutes to cook. A perfect delicious treat to satisfy your sweet cravings without spending too much time in the kitchen
Vanilla Triangle Cake

Source : Masala Mornings
Makes : 12
Ingredients :
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup butter ( I used cooking oil )
1/2 cup caster sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla essence
Method :
Sieve flour and baking powder in a bowl, keep aside.
In a separate bowl, combine butter and sugar. Beat till creamy.
Add in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add essence and beat again.
Fold in flour mixture.
Prepare Sandwich Maker by brushing both sides of the sandwich maker ( cooking surface ) with cooking oil. Close and preheat until the light turns red.
Spoon your cake batter in each well until full but not overflowing.
Close the lid of the sandwich maker and cook for approximately 3 - 4 minutes or until golden brown.
Take out the cakes, sprinkle with Icing sugar & serve right away.
My Notes :
Check after 3 minutes with a toothpick, if the tooth pick comes out clean, it's ready. If not, cook a little longer, checking after every minute.
They are best eaten right away. But you can make them in advance too, just microwave for a minute or so until warm.0 -
This thread is amazing. Thank you to everyone! So many ideas, so many calories:o0

I didn't know birds ate cake......but thinking about it why not.
I may do some for the birds then seeing as I don't eat it. I have a sort of 'overhang' house, so could hang them under that so they wouldn't get wet and mushy in the rain and fall off.
I've got a robin....wonder if he would like some....will be a fat robin. does the sugar not harm them? Although if we are going to get a bad winter...calories are calories so best to be fattened up.
EDIT.
Well i've made some. Now i'm no baker, but I wouldn't offer mine to a human....lol. the mixture was too dry (don't know how as followed destructions and have cup measuring cups). They haven't spread to Breville shape as mixture too dry and have come out as cake blobs. Rockie Robin might like them though, so will string them for him.
Will have to try another day and convert measures to metric, maybe egg was too small, it wasn't a large one.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Oh no that's a shame Calicocat, perhaps add a tablespoon of milk to soften the mix next time?
There are going to be some very happy birds soon!2019, move forward with positivity! I am the opposite of Eyeore :rotfl:0 -
