no ive not made cakes in mine, but as a mince pie lover (see mince pie thread) ive often wondered if pastry would cook on it but never tried it.
I usually buy the pre rolled pastry from Tesco (also available in other establishments) and make one big pie/tart/turnover.
I wasn't sure if the breville type sandwich toaster would cook the pastry properly, (just checked and it is a breville) so ill give it a try next time:j

I know that you can cook puff pastry in it as there is a recipe for apple and sultana puffs in my old breville instructions, which says to cook them for 4 mins.

For anyone who can't find their Breville recipe booklet.

  • On the machines I've seen, the squares look too small to hold a standard size slice. Which ones can hold normal slices of bread?

I just made these! How fab! (I've got an @sda sandwich maker - was around £9)

Thanks OP, the family are all very impressed!

Did you use a cake mix or just make your own standard mix up?

Glad that they turned out well.

I think I will give them a go tomorrow.
