It's actually the same one that's been posted before for Vision Express. That link looks like it's a disguised affiliate link so it's probably best to use the one off Martin's email from last Wednesday: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/latesttip/

I received that voucher when I processed it on the website (using the link sent in Martin's weekly e-mail). Got a call yesterday to confirm my appointment and just before the end of the call, the lady said "your eye test is free with a purchase only."

I responded, "I'm sorry - that's not what I booked. It clearly said no purchase necessary and there is a voucher to go with it." She was then like "Oh we've given you a voucher, in that case it is free and there is no cost." The person who made the call sounded as they were from a call centre.

My sister had an identical call later. I am assuming for those who might have missed the link, that is the information being given out initially so best to clarify it at the time of booking and state you have a voucher.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to confirm that I managed to get my free eye test from Optical Express in Brighton back in February, however...

I handed over my voucher after the test and the guy on the main desk ushered me out. It was only when I got home that I realised I hadn't been issued with a new prescription. I'd been thrown off the scent because my eyesight hadn't changed in the last two years.

Anyway, I need a recently dated prescription to get lenses put into an old pair of vintage frames, so I phoned Optical Express to ask them to send it to me.

The first time, the woman put me on hold and spoke to the branch. She came back on the line and said they'd send it to me in the post. That was early February.

Ten days ago I called again. This time at first the call centre operative told me that THEY DON'T ISSUE PRESCRIPTIONS and they normally fax through details on request if you want to buy glasses from another store. This sounded bizarre to me, so I insisted on being put through to the branch. I spoke to the same chap on the front desk - he very quickly said that he'd put the prescription in the post to me. I asked if he had my details, as I hadn't confirmed the address to the other woman, and he was all 'yes, yes'. I think now he was just trying to get rid.

So the upshot is that I will be going to the branch tomorrow and staying there until I get a) my prescription and b) an apology. Shame, because the optometrist was lovely and I would definitely have paid to go there again.

Does anyone know what the legal standpoint is? They have to issue me with a prescription, right? No purchase necessary. Why on earth do they put out these deals if they don't want to honour them?

Hi all...can i just say that i have been to my local Boots optician and had the most amazing service. The Optometrist was both very personable and also very professional and i really felt that i got the best possible service in all respects. The thing about big companies like Boots is that they have the money to buy all the best kit. Sometimes you can go too cheap.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
