Free Eye Test at Optical Express

  • Has anyone else done this?

I just had my call back to confirm appointment, and in the closing waffle the lady said my eye test would be free with any purchase. There was no mention of this on the web page, so I looked around the website some more and found this:

" Free Eye Tests from Optical Express

In Scotland the NHS pay for your eye test. At Optical Express an eye test is also FREE in Ireland. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland an eye test is FREE with any purchase of glasses, contact lenses (excludes outright purchases of contact lenses) or sunglasses. Without purchase the cost of an eye test in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is £15."

I'm now in two minds about what to do. Obviously, I should have queried it when they were still on the phone, but I wanted to double check that I hadn't misread the web page first. I've been given an appointment for Wednesday afternoon, and in all honesty, was only bothering as it was free. I am way overdue an eye test, but don't actually have a spare £15 right now.

  • Yes, I have got it free today. I printed the voucher and myself booked the appointment using phone number provided. They also called me at the time but I told them that I have already booked it so they said fine.

I went for my appointment and at the end gave my voucher and it was free.

So tested and confirmed working as of 1pm today.
  • Sorry, what voucher? I used the form on the web page linked above, but didn't see any voucher.
  • It should create one for you when you submit your details, did for me
  • Thanks for the voucher/info I'm another who can confirm I had my eye test completely free today using the voucher on the optical express website, be sure to print it out and take with you or you may have to pay. Thanks OP

  • I didn't see any voucher :(
    Not exactly sure why.
  • I also didn't get a voucher. I filled out the online form and someone from customer services called me to confirm my appointment and I thought I heard her say "free if I make a purchase." I also thought maybe I'd read it wrong so I went back to check, but it does say it should be free with no obligation to purchase. I'm not sure what's going on with this. If it's not free I will cancel it.
  • I applied for the free eye test this morning and someone called me back to arrange an appointment. I then noticed on the voucher it says 'eye tests are free with purchase. £15 without purchase'

I then called the number back and queried this and they told me it is definitely free and no purchase necessary???

    I'm confused?? Someone please help!
