Hi Ellie
Yes, told anything that was put in to sorting office rather than real RM mail would be treated as junk mail! I did look into it before deciding not to and this was the advice from the RM. (Can't remember, but I think I checked it up on line.) The only stuff we get other than RM tends to be of the Council type stuff, the very odd leaflet. So maybe RM being more selective about what they ask the Posties to deliver with our proper mail. A couple of years ago it was out of proportion the junk mail going for recycle rather than the real stuff! It seems to be just Monday and Tuesday weekly we get any junk stuff. The rest of the week it seems to be 'real' mail!
Re phone calls and TPS - maybe get two a month at most for it to abate so it has made a big difference to us. It always seemed to be about teatime when I was cooking that they called.
Take care

I am sorry, I don't actually remember that ad. Maybe we didn't get it up here in Scotland. I think that should be a bit below his level if he was promoting them. Like EJ music, can go with the football but RM - no! I love the ladies in the local Post Office doing their job but the delivery side is a wee bit lacking - both home and at work.
Supplier sent us a replacement 3 weeks ago - never arrived, second replacement arrived. No invoice! Got in touch with supplier - said have this one on me as RM so unreliable and would like you to come back to me if you need stuff. Well, what does that say? We were totally overwhelmed by his generosity - replacement parts, lost ones and postage!! That is indeed a good PR exercise etc. Companies should really not have to do this!

I get calls to my home phone from a with-held fax... It happens EVERY morning between 9 and 11 and holds my phone up for at least 5 mins every time. Im sick of it! Im TPS as well..
We had a double glazing company call us once and i told them i was not interested but they called back 3 times in 10 mins!! On the forth time my 6 year old answered the phone and said 'my mummy is getting mad im going to call the police on you'... LOL After we put the phone down it rang again, so my dd picked up the phone repeated what she had said before and put the phone down. Turns out it was my nan, she called my mobile asking if everything was ok cause she just called the home phone and my dd had told her if she called again she was going to call the police! :L0 -
Hi
A tip on how to stop persistant callers; BT have a service called Choose 2 refuse, so long as you know the number that has been pestering you, call 14258 from your BT landline insert pin no 1234, follow the instructions to enter the offending number on the list. It's free for the first month, then they charge you £10.05 per quarter, so you must cancel it before the month end by calling BT.
How do I know this? Well we kept getting calls from an 0845 number which was for reverse charge calls, and had 2 calls accepted by one of the kids, so showed up on the phone bill (just over £3 for 2 local numbers - yikes!). Lady at BT suggested that blocking the number for a month would be enough to stop pranksters, and then cancel before the monthly charge kicks in, by which time the pranksters would have got fed up with getting number refused message when dialing our number.
It's worth a try, in addition to being registered with the TPS it should help0 -
My advice to all of you is be extremely careful when buying anything or joining anything whether in a shop, online or from a bank. As if you give your name, address and telephone number without ticking the "opt out" or "opt in"* box, then the company can legally get their subsidiaries to call you up.
I've worked for a organisation who used this loophole to cold call people. However due to the fact the person has "opted in" it is not legally classed as cold calling. The only way you can stop this is by writing to the company and ask them to stop processing your personal data under Data Protection Act 1998 and state you will take court action if they don't. This is worth doing for persistent offenders.
The two ways that always got us off the phone was someone who interrupted us and started a long conversation with us about the news or the weather (old ladies are very good at this) , or if a name was mentioned told us that person was deceased.
*The box should be "opt in" but some companies have still not updated their leaflets/forms/websites to comply with the law. You can report them to the Information Commissioner. Other companies have worded the box to confuse people on whether they are opting in or out.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
