My brother did something similar with a double glazing company in Birmingham. They kept calling him every week for about 2 months, and he kept telling them he wasn't interested as he had just had double glazing fitted. In the end, he did what cuffie's friend did and strung him them along. When they came to measure, he told them in person that he had invited them over to see for themselves his new double glazing, so that they would be in no doubt at all that he did not need their services. He never heard from them again.

One of our friends got a call from a window company. They were really pushy and just wouldn't leave hime alone, so one one phonecall, he ended up playing along with them. He took up a lot of their time, said he wanted a conservatory built. Went through loads of stuff on the phone with them and then invited them round for them to measure up and quote. He lives on a 2nd floor flat! They didn't call back after that!!

    We both enjoyed that one!

Remember, time is money to them so if you aren't doing anything then wasting their time is the best revenge!

I got cold calls from a double-glazing company for days on end.

"Even if you're not interested now we can still give you a quote for the future." [obviously so keen to get a foot in the door]

What a wonderful idea! So I made an appointment and Mr Sleaze dutifully turned up. He spotted my brand-new double glazing and my brand-new sofits and fascia. "How about a conservatory?" said Mr Sleaze. So he measured up and I ummed and ahhhed over styles, glazing and the colour of the locks. After a good couple of hours, Mr Sleaze asked if I was ready to sign. So I handed him my bank statement showing about £50 to last until payday and pointed to the new car outside that had eaten up all my funds. "So why did you make an appointment then?" asked a peeved Mr Sleaze. "I didn't, your marketing department insisted that you would love to provide a quote for the future!" With that Mr Sleaze said something unrepeatable and stormed out. And I've never had a call from them since!

Last year, i repeatedly got calls from American Life.

They were trying to sell critical illness cover specifically for women. I said that i wasnt interested. They said, but what if you get cancer? I said that i wasnt interested again. Became very pushy.

They then went on to tell me, in a very horrible manner, that did i realise i would probably get cancer, as one in 3 people are affected by it. What would happen if i had children etc, and i was critically ill, or had passed away. Wouldnt it be nice to have money for them etc.

    Thats just out of order.

Im now with the tps. Have only had one call since regestering a year ago.

The posts have given me a good giggle although I do sympathise with the posters...
what gets me so mad is that with the huge volume of cold callers that when you're actually trying to genuinely contact a customer to respond to a letter or query or just returning their call (we don't cold call, only response calls) it gets really difficult and you have to convince people you're not trying to sell them something. Several times it's happened that I've had to return a call on an ongoing query to a customer and they refused to speak to me, being adament that they never called me in the first place! But at the end of the day, those that have had their guard up from beginning of the call and realise it's a genuine caller calling them are so apologetic and makes the call easier.

That's no excuse, and is used to justify all kinds of evil.

Some people through no fault of their own may need any job just to make ends meet at a particular point in their lives. Or have personal circumstances where the type of job they can get is limited. I don't really see how saying 'thats no excuse' when people are just doing their jobs is really fair.

You can add your mobile number(s) onto your TPS list. It's also a good idea to subscribe to the Fax Preference Service, even if you don't have a fax machine. This should stop automated fax machines calling your telephone number, sometimes in the middle of the night.

    hey,

I just want to echo what some people have said about cold callers. I know there a pain in the a$$ and that they always phone when your cooking the tea/ in the bath etc, but it is there job.

i doubt very much that any of them enjoy what they do, but its their job. Better than them being on the doll?? I work in a call centre (not cold calling thank god), but it is a hellish place. I cant wait to get out, but circumstances just wont allow at the moment.

i understand being annoyed at them, and that they are over pushy at times, but if you have the choice between keeping your job and annoying a total stranger for 2 minuites I think you'd find it an easy decision too.

That said i completely sympathise with you. After all, if you want something then you know you want something. you don't need some voice telling you that you do!!
