:eek:All the big shops have got their Christmas stuff in. Am I alone in thinking that Christmas is an over-priced rip off? OMG, I really, really don't like it at all. Bah humbug:mad:

I find it very easy to 'edit it out' until just before the actual event which can be reasonably enjoyable for a couple of days.
This has come about as much by accident as design.
1) I don't watch live TV. Everything is recorded on a PVR so I don't see trailers or adverts with early Christmas stuff.
2) I do most of my non food shopping on t'net so I'm not bombarded in the shops. The supermarkets tend to just use the 'seasonal' aisle until much nearer the time.
So, although I'd agree with you if I was actually affected it seems to manage to stay pretty much in the background for me until well into December.
The one thing that I really hate is 'Christmas' music. Even though not in any way religious I still loved a few carols in the week before, but nowadays everyone seems to have switched to a never ending loop of three or four ghastly, musically sterile, Christmas songs. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Some shops have had the stock on the shelves since middle of September or maybe earlier. Your not alone in thinking its over priced but its up to the consumer not to buy into it.0 -
You're not alone - I loathe and detest Christmas. I can't avoid it completely because the family makes a fuss about it, but I try to zone out and limit my involvement to as little as possible."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Oh, thank goodness for some like minded people. Many folk around me make me feel like a pariah because I dislike it so much. It was ok when I was a kid and it was all up to my parents. We didn't have any money so extravagant presents were never an issue. Nowadays it just seems to be a competition as to who can spend (waste?) the most.
Like you Azari, I record all the telly programs I want to watch so I ff through the adverts and I do most of my non food shopping on the internet too but as soon as you walk through the doors at Tesco, there it is in all it's glory. Plus everybody at work is talking about it and getting sooo excited, telling everybody about what they're buying and expecting from other people. Then afterwards, the moaning that they've got no money!
Tiglath, you have the right idea. I try hard to do the same. I live alone (apart from the dog) after being widowed 3 years ago. My mil and sil always make a fuss at Christmas, looking at me like they feel sorry for me coz I'm on my own and constantly asking if I'll be ok over Christmas (they always go away to relatives). It drives me mad!! As far as I'm concerned it's a couple of days off work when I can walk the dog as often as I want and catch up on all the telly stuff I've recorded (telly's always rubbish at Christmas). They just don't get it.
I'm getting cross now, just thinking about it. Out of everybody I know, I'm the only person who thinks like this. I'm just glad I'm not the only one.
Yes, you're right about the music too. It's everywhere you go, you can't get away from it. I like a few carols too, it reminds me of my childhood, but flippin' Slade and Wham on a loop, no thanks!

I used to love it, but over the last couple of years have just found it an expensive annoyance. There is almost the feeling of GUILT if you refuse to spend an absolute fortune on everyone! The opposite of what you know...is also true0

I now only buy for my 3 children, 3 grandchildren, my mil and 3 nieces and nephews. I put a limit on what I spend and most years just give cash. Not very original I know but I can't be bothered faffing around in the shops buying stuff they probably won't want. I do buy token gifts for my 2 bosses but don't spend very much at all. I receive gifts from mil and my bosses. I tell everybody else "don't buy for me coz I'm not buying for you". Oh, and I'll probably get the dog something.

you have to limit it somewhere don't you.. its infuriating though, we are trying to save for a house, and could really do with out it to be honest lolThe opposite of what you know...is also true0

Haven't really 'done' christmas for years. All me and wife do now is have a nice meal, 1 gift for each other (not even wrapped, lol) and cards for close family.
Don't do family visits, gifts other than the above, decorations, music, or conventional dinner

I like Xmas. More for the 2 weeks off work, parties, beer and good times than any religious reason!0
