I've been thinking a lot about DH treating us to lunch out this afternoon & that it's such a blatant rule break & that we've got loads of food in the freezer which is much tastier & better for you not to mention cheaper... So I've managed to persuade him that HM spag bol is much more MSE & the money can go to emergency fund, debt repayment & bonfire night.

Wow NSK what have you done to me? We used to eat out dinner, lunch & sometimes breakfast all at least once a week but the thought of it was really playing on my mind last night & this morning too.

morning everyone. didnt check in last night as was out and didnt know how much i would spend. yesterdays stats-

    SFD 3/20
    Toiletries- £0/10
    Food- £11.79/80
    Food bank- £0/3
    Lunches- 4/23
    Extra earnt- £24/100
    Social events- £26.10/75
    Sugar free days- 4/31
    Gym visits- 1/20

had fruit pie with cream for desert so guessing it will obv have had added sugar so cant count yest as sugar free day. but it was included in the price and was yummy. had a really good night but was not a good idea to have a few glasses of wine whilst recovering from my cold. omg my head was soooooo sore by the end of the night even though i only had 3 glasses and had lots of water and diet coke. 2 doses of cocodamol and its not too bad now. didnt spend much, only £26.10 which was good considering £22 was on taxi and costume :)

today will be spendy as mum is coming and we are going into town. i will buy lunch (around £20) and also need to get bday present for dad and friend. these are budgeted for in my present fund. also need to stock up on popping corn from h&b as it seems to be cheapest there. imagine we will look in the second hand/antique shops and i am going to keep my eye out for a dressing table/desk as want a pine dressing table for my room.

i worked out my dfd yest and it would be in may 2014 if i pay £560 off pm. as i would only need to pay £459 off in may i have decided to make it april 2014 and so i need to make the £459 on top of normal payments. i think it should be doable :)

I also freeze milk, takes a while to thaw but is fine.
frugal foxy I like the onions idea. I'm going to have to do that. What other veg can be done in this way?

I do leeks in the same way as often 3 in a packet's too much for one pot of soup. I just wash chop & stick in freezer bag then add to soup when needed.

Hey ffoxy. Thanks very much for the info. I have done the worst thing ever in my OH's eyes (he is quite the overdramatic type sometimes) and bought him ready diced frozen onions. Because I don't eat onions, he is only using about half an onion at a time and then the other half gets thrown out. It's crazy. So I bought a bag of ready frozen bits. I think it is money saving-y. I have also bought me frozen leeks which will be used for soup as, again, I only use a small amount of leeks to make soup and then the rest of it goes off. (but they are so expensive!!)

So... if I was to buy ready grated mozarella cheese then I could put it into food bags and freeze it, and it would defrost okay?? I don't eat it raw so it would be going onto pizzas, lasagnes or into toasties. Can you use it from frozen or do you have to let it defrost first?? (This would save us a lot of money as we keep having to chuck out mouldy cheese as we don't use a whole bag at a time).
    :)

Erm... on a more thread-related note... today is my shopping day!! We need to buy a tescimo's £20 voucher for OH's sister as it is her birthday. (Because they live in England, it is cheaper to send a card with a voucher rather than buy a pressie and send it by post). So, my plan to stick to £20 has gone out the window. However, it is a planned spend so hooray!!
    :D

Waiting for 18:00 so I can go nosey at yellow labels. They become quite addictive.

  • Morning everyone.
    Today is SFD number 4.
I forget to make a comment some days as I'm that busy reading what everyone else is doing.
Spent last night looking at changing energy suppliers and changed from Co-op to EON saving, £80 per year.
Also renewed house insurance saving £80 on renewal quote.
Went via Quidco and Uswitch and earned £24 on this as well..

My son gave me £25 towards the petrol as I've been taking him to work and picking him up as his car is off the road at the minute.
Do I add this money back into my petrol fund or just top the petrol back up to the £40 I usually put in and save the difference?
I love being on here and reading how everyone is doing.

It keeps me on the straight and narrow too if I know I'm coming back on to report what I've been up to.

Feeling a bit stupid but what else is new so I will go ahead and ask...

What sort of things do people put into their foodbank?? I was thinking tins of soup and supernoodles?? (I know they have a note saying "please don't give us baked beans and tinned tomatoes"). I haven't given to a foodbank before and when I tried googling what to put in, it came up with the trussel trust thing and some minister guy who had insulted food bank users or something like that. Nothing really helpful.
    :(

Sorry for the stupid question but we are going shopping later and I am currently writing out our shopping list. See... at least I am learning.

Thanks very much kittyboo. It sounded so daft but I didn't want to buy the wrong thing and for it to be useless.
    :o

Yeah, I never used to go shopping with a list and I never bought enough "decent" food for the week, it was all junk food and then I would have to go shopping again during the week to get more sensible food. This shopping list malarky will hopefully let me have more spend free days whilst also keeping costs low. (fingers crossed).
    :D

Well done on getting all that money back just by changing providers. I had no idea it could make that much of a difference. Another lesson learnt.

It sounds so stupid but I never thought of freezing your own veg!

I take it that you can do it for just about anything? I often have a few carrots or sweet potato left over in the bottom of the bag. This is going to be my new mission! Also love the idea of freezing milk. I wish we hadn't sold our huge feeezer earlier in the year :( but it used more electricity than it was worth, seeing as there's only 2 of us and we already have a little freezer.

So far a SFD and I'm refusing to go out, so fingers crossed it'll be SFD no 2 (finally!!!!)
