Amazon delaying Supersaver Delivery packages

Grrr! I haven't ordered anything from Amazon for a while, but on Sunday, I ordered three items in two orders (a camera costing over £300 and a purse and bag totalling over £50). As is usually the case, I picked Super Saver delivery, because in the past it has always come within 2/3 days of ordering anyway.
Not so, five days later, neither package has been dispatched yet, despite them reserving the money on my card and changing the status to 'dispatching soon' on Sunday - at this point I thought they would go out on Monday or Tuesday.
I've had a look on the net and there's lots of people complaining about this - it seems that Amazon are deliberately sitting on Supersaver Delivery packages for days on end in order to 'encourage' people to sign up to Amazon Prime.
I wish now that I had taken the free trial, got my stuff in a reasonable time, and then cancelled it, but I couldn't be bothered. I also think its a bit unethical to take free trials when you have no intention of taking on the product.
Now I know that delivery is not 'free' and has to be paid for somehow, but I would have thought that Amazon could absorb the cost of delivery within nearly £400 of stuff.
I also deeply resent being manipulated in this way and it really makes me think twice about using Amazon again, seeing as they aren't anywhere as reliable/customer friendly as they used to be and they'll probably send my camera out by Yodel, who will leave the parcel on my office doorstep (parcels are going to my work as I thought they would have been delivered this week sometime) and then they will get stolen by some grubby thief with x-ray vision to hone in on my camera parcel.
Amazon are now just too big and don't give a stuff about their customers anymore.

I made 4 orders last Saturday evening using Supersaver and all items received by Wednesday morning so it doesn't appear to be an across the board issue.604!0

Basically it's just sensible business practice. Anyone who orders by prime or first class gets priority as they have a shorter delivery window. Therefore these get picked first. Super saver parcels are picked and despatched when either the rest of the days paid for delivery has been sorted or it's been a few days and they won't arrive for their promised date.
That's the price you pay for not wanting to pay for delivery. They do give you the delivery timescales when you order. You can be lucky and get it early but if you don't then it's hard to complain as you are given a date.0 -

That really it gives an estimated date of when it will arrive so even if they don't send it out for four days it will still always arrive in the timescale they say. Ive had ones that i have had to wait 5 days until dispatch and ones that are dispatched the next day. Either way if its something you need as soon as then you need to pay or take the trial because with free del it could be a few days or over a week.0 -
I've notice a downturn in the quality of the super saver service, but it is still free so i'm not going to complain too much.
Royal mail also taking an age to deliver the orders too! A dvd arrived 4 days after the delivery estimate (which are always super generous) and a box sent RM 48 took 4 days to arrive (presuming it was collected on the Monday and not Sat when dispatched).0 -

Sports Direct is an Amazon Marketplace seller.0 -
I ordered an item last week that arrived earlier than their original estimate. In fact I was rather surprised to get a 'your item will be delivered today' email from them, I've never had one before.Stompa0

supersaver doesnt just relate to the delivery
it also relates to the picking/despatch
So you can have next day delivery, but taking 5 days to pick0 -
I've had no problem ordered a few bits for girlie's 21st and they've all arrived really quickly! Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.
