This is one of the reasons I like older cars. My £800 16 year old Volvo comes with a proper spare alloy wheel and tyre :D

Not all new cars have the cheap spray can option - most Alfas still have spare wheels.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

A puncture would be the least of my concerns with a 16 year old car.

In many years of private motoring, i cant recall a total deflation which has rendered me marooned by the roadside. I have had the odd object in tyre tread causing slow puncture and been able to visit tyre depot for puncture repair. So what is a non spare wheeel owning driver to do if they have a full deflation by the roadside and the tyre is still serviceable i.e they havent driven on and wrecked it? If you use the squirty gook apparently it doesnt always work and the tyre is then unusable. Will a motoring org sort you out and if so,how?.

I had a total deflation on Friday, admittedly the first I've had while driving but something felt very wrong with the car and pulled over to a loud hissing noise from the tyre which went completely flat within a couple of minutes.

I'd made sure I had a spare wheel when I'd bought the car but I did ask the breakdown guy what would happen if I didn't, he said he'd be towing me home which is not that unusual these days due to the lack of spare wheels. As it was with the spare wheel fitted I was able to continue my journey as normal.

I haven't had punctures very often but still much prefer having the spare wheel for those times when I do need it.

How many trucks can run you over in 4 minutes?!

Plenty, but that's what my eyes and legs are for. Eyes I use to watch the oncoming traffic, and my legs are used to jump over the armco and up the embankment if necessary.

Like I say, my life, my risk assessment. Compared to some of the risks I've run in some of the places I've had to go to 'work', the hard shoulder feels pretty safe.

Why? It'll be no less reliable than any other car if it's looked after properly.

Admittedly, I say that whilst my 11 year old car is back in the garage for the 3rd time in a month but that's on wear and tear stuff.

As to changing a wheel on the motorway; I'd rather be doing that and away in 5 minutes than to sit waiting an hour for recovery. I'd phone the police to advise them though, and presumably they could put a warning on the gantries for everyone else to ignore....

How do they tow people home on three wheels?

The lift either the front or back 2 wheels off the ground using a dolly?

Cost saving brands takes cost saving measures shock.

As said, it's becoming standard on many new cars at all price points.

Do you expect a Veyron or Porsche 911 has a spare wheel? all 22" and 300 section tyres worth of it?
    ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
