Personally I'd rather have the spare.
Agree, however that's not the only issue with those tyres the run flats ruined the ride on my wifes bm, she switched them for normal tyres after a month and they have transformed the handling.0 -

My boss had a 3 series cab with RFT on 19s with the Msport pack and the inside shoulder of the rear tyres lasted about six months a time. Then he experienced the wheels cracking and switched to new wheels with normal tyres, no problems after that.0 -

Can agree with only part of that.
Fitting non-run-flats will improve the comfort of the ride - but will do nothing for the handling.0 -

Disagree, on the run flats it tramlined like a dog and was prone to trying change direction violently when it hit a pot hole as well as having a back breaking ride.
Set of Continental Sport Contact 3 boots made a massive difference, stunning grip in the wet, no tramlining, plenty of feedback and inspires confidence in the dry.0 -

I added "and tyre" because my mother recently bought a Nissan space saver wheel kit as an optional extra for her new spareless Qashqai and the tyre wasn't included. !!!!!!?
Is that still the case?
The IX35 used to be the same but the facelift now makes that full size alloy a "cost option".
They also put the price up and took off a load of options across the range.
Getting a bit big for their britches.0 -

OK then -we must agree to differ - I'm running ContiSportContact2s RFTs on a 320d M-Sport and don't have any of those problems.
I have experience of the Bridgestone Run-Flats which is the other brand often fitted as OE by BMW and I have to say they were terrible - bumpy and noisy.0 -
i got a brand new corsa last year.
i didnt know that it didnt come with a spare either, until i had a punture on the m6.
however when i got the car they gave me a year free with the AA
so the AA came and towed me off the m6 and towed me home and arranged for a company to come to my home and fit a brand new tyre.
it did cost me 70 for the new tyre thoughcredit card bill. £0.00
overdraft £0.00
Help from the state £0.000 -
I am a great believer in the power of the boycott. Unfortunately people seem to be blinded by the shine on their new car and forget that, if enough did actually boycott the manufacturers, something would be done. Even if it was only leaving enough space for a proper spare that you could buy as an optional extra. As has been said, punctures are rare nowadays, but have the potential to be both really annoying and extremely inconvenient.
All the manufacturers guff about weight saving is just spurious nonsense. We all know that it is just for their financial benefit.
So you want the cars to be more expensive?0 -

I think that's the difference then, your in a 3 series and wifey has a Z4 which seem to suffer more with the runflats fitted.0 -

This is just a warning if you are thinking about buying a new Kia Rio - they do not come with a spare wheel, you have to buy this seperately, along with a jack and wheel brace. It does come with a repair kit, but this will be of no use if the hole in the tyre is big or there is a tear in the side-wall.
Kia confirmed that this is company policy.
Welcome to the new millenium..
Quite frankly, a spare engine would be more use to me, based on my own personal break down statistics over 30 years.
3 punctures, 5 Engine failures :eek:0
