Warning: No Spare Wheels with new Kia Rio

Hi All,
This is just a warning if you are thinking about buying a new Kia Rio - they do not come with a spare wheel, you have to buy this seperately, along with a jack and wheel brace. It does come with a repair kit, but this will be of no use if the hole in the tyre is big or there is a tear in the side-wall.
Kia confirmed that this is company policy.

It's pretty normal these days. Even our Audi had no spare, just a tin of tyre repair fluid and a small electric pump.0

Yep, loads of manufacturers leave spare wheels out now. As long as you have breakdown you should be OK, I've only had 1 puncture in the last five years and annoyingly that was the evening before the cars first MOT.0

Yes, many brands do it these days - Merc & Audi on most cars, BMW on several, so don't feel that it's just because the brand is not German.
Look on the bright side, your car probably has a dipstick, which Audi don't even supply any more!1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
Yes it's unfortunately fairly standard now.
I was pleased to see that a spaceaver (not ideal but much better than the can of goo!) was included as standard when I bought my Yaris Hybrid just about a year ago. However I know it's now an extra (but the jack and wheel brace are still included)
Edit: and the goo has an expiry dateNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -

Personally I'd rather have the spare.0 -
Cost saving brands takes cost saving measures shock.
As said, it's becoming standard on many new cars at all price points.
Do you expect a Veyron or Porsche 911 has a spare wheel? all 22" and 300 section tyres worth of it?0 -
Just think of the two pence it saves in fuel when you are waiting on the hard shoulder for the tyre garage, which is not covered in your breakdown cover.
There is a very good reason spare tyres were introduced and it should be added to the MOT to have one.Be happy...;)0 -
By a Kia Sportage instead. You get a full size alloy wheel (and tyre) that matches the other four.
I added "and tyre" because my mother recently bought a Nissan space saver wheel kit as an optional extra for her new spareless Qashqai and the tyre wasn't included. !!!!!!?0 -

Now that's odd. The memsahib had an MGF with a spacesaver wheel but it had a little tyre fitted to it. I think the last one I had a full sized spare for was a Merc 320. Never needed it but it could certainly go through tyre, especially rear ones - very torquey car.0 -

Do you expect a Veyron or Porsche 911 has a spare wheel? all 22" and 300 section tyres worth of it?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
