Easy answer ....... if the car doesn't come with at least a space saver , walk away . If enough people did that , the manufacturers would come to there senses.
I recently enquired about a second hand car , my FIRST remark to the salesman ...... no spare ... NO deal !
All the manufacturers guff about weight saving is just spurious nonsense. We all know that it is just for their financial benefit.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
You can get a steel wheel from oponeo for about £50:

Buy a budget tyre for £50 or spend more on a premium tyre if you want. The man without a signature.0 -
Pretty standard now my 2009 kia Cee'd has a space saver spare wheel.Iva started Dec 2018.0

Our old Mk2 Mondeo ahs a full size matching alloy spare in the boot (complete with unused Goodyear), and our current seven year old Octavia has a full size steel wheel, and still has the biggest boot I have ever seen on this class of car.
I had an Audi A2 years ago, and it was only when I came to sell it, that I realised it only had the can of repair stuff.0 -

Just wondered why an old mondeo has an unused spare in the boot.
Whenever I have had a car with a new spare trye in the boot, the first time I have needed 2 tyres I buy 1 new (to match the spare) use the spare, and put the best legal tyre in boot for spare0 -
Stuck on the Ardnamurchan peninsula Saturday afternoon 30 miles along a single track road as far west as you can go on the Scottish mainland a hole the size of a babies fist in the tyre and the woman from Chrysler (300C) is telling me your car has a spare sir, we will send someone out to show you where it is..........arghh.
There was no spare but fortunately they guy they contacted phoned me and I explained the problem. It took him 3 hours driving to reach me but did have a courtesy car on the back of the wagon.0 -

This is just a warning if you are thinking about buying a new Kia Rio - they do not come with a spare wheel, you have to buy this seperately, along with a jack and wheel brace. It does come with a repair kit, but this will be of no use if the hole in the tyre is big or there is a tear in the side-wall.
Kia confirmed that this is company policy.
You bought a brand new car and didn't do any homework/research first, as others have said, most cars these days don't come with a spare wheel as standard, however you generally can spec a space saver or full size spare as an option, you obviously didn't look through the brochures, had you done your research you could have negotiated a spare with the dealership. When I was in the market for a new car earlier this year, all the brochures I had were clear on what was standard equipment and what was available as an option, all listed a repair kit as standard with spare wheels as options.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

I was the second owner of the Mondeo (I have had it for eight years), and the spare had obviously never been used. I didn't fancy buying another Goodyear to match, so put Pirellis on all around.0 -
We negotiated with the dealer when buying our Rio in April and got a proper spare included in the price. And 3 yrs servicing.0
