Agreed- I find the tills in Tesco an absolute pain now and love the challenge of keeping up with the operators in Aldi. Have also experienced the letting in of customers with a couple of items (both as the giver and receiver of the kindness).

Me too, it can take 10 mins to get through a tesco checkout sometimes, Ive waited ages on someone in front of me getting served their cashiers in my local tesco are very very slow indeed.

Speaking as one of those idiots:D

I have my bags ready open in the trolley and my goods placed in the order I want them to come through on the conveyor. So I can quickly put my bottles, jars, packets and heavy veg into the bags then arrange more delicate stuff around/on top of them.

    It's not rocket science!!!

Well that's fine so long as you can do it quickly enough.

If not, though, I don't see any issue in just doing that in the packing area afterwards.

As mentioned, the only flaw in the system is when you use a basket which can't (for some reason) be taken through the till.

Maybe people would just carry the basket to their cars and never return them?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else have problems using more than one of the individual 30/50% off vouchers at a time?

The Aldi staff locally have been instructed by the manager that "Vouchers valid for one product only" means that you can only use one voucher per shopping transaction, meaning that each voucher has to be put through as a separate transaction..

I have to admit, Im an Aldi Deputy Manager (bracing for the barrage of questions :rotfl: ) and what that managers doing is utter bonkers. Yes one product per voucher but you can stock up on as many vouchers as you like and put them through on the one transaction. (Which area is your aldi, just out of curiosity? )

The only problem is you can only use one £5 voucher per transaction but thats easily solved. I do it everytime the vouchers come out for my monthly shop.
Seeing as the papers only 50p I usually buy two (or three) :D Simply ask the cashier to stop at the £40 mark and give them the voucher. Yes you end up doing two transactions but hey, instead of having £5 off an £80 shop, you get £10!!

I tried the aldi experience, and was not impressed by it at all. im not having a rant for argument sake, and can see why some find shopping there appealing, but its not for me.
however please don't be put off by me, try it for yourself.
im single and live alone and cant say the saving I made was significant, but can confirm that that although the brands where different that what im used to buying the food was still delicious.:j

Thanks for that. I'm hoping they'll see sense next time!

On another subject, is Aldi aware that the quality of its fruit and vegetables is letting an otherwise excellent store down? Plus the fact that it won't keep for more than a day or two? :)

I always shop in aldi for fruit and veg and have never had a problem with the veg keeping. I've had carrots in the fridge for over 2 weeks and they are still the same as when I bought them.

Unfortunately, yes. Its a current catch 22 situation at the moment. Were trying to use more local fruit and veg farms that dont use as much chemical pesticides and preservatives, which in a way, is better for the environment both transport and cost. But the major downside to that is it dosnt last as long as it used to.

Bonus points for having less crap in it but having said that im not going to lie and say iv never had mouldy strawberries!:o theres nothing more annoying than trying to make a smoothie and realising you fruit has gone hairy!

All our soft fruit (berrys ect) come with a two-4 day shelf life realistically, but if your like me and are trying to do the old fashioned MSE I tend to refrigerate most of my fruit n veg. (Apart from grapefruit.. they last for aaaaages and get sweeter as they go.) Yes, I am a grapefruit wimp....:rotfl:

  • I am feeling rather chuffed at the moment! I have been a regular shopper at our local store since the 90's when it first opened. Recently it has been undergoing an extension programme which is due to be completed next week. All households hereabouts have been issued with 4 x weekly vouchers for £5 off a £30 shop to tempt them into the newly extended store.Very welcome!
