Impossible to be served by a human being in Tesco

I love it when customers say they like to keep staff in jobs therefore don't want to use the self serving tills.
The staff costs are usually removed from the store at the point they are installed - customers can wait if they want to be served by a person with their one or two items but it will make no difference to anyone's jobs as the hours the machines took are long gone.0 -

90p item by debit card
I raise you, 20p newspaper by credit card.
I had no coins on me and didn't want to break into a £10 note so paid with plastic :rotfl:0 -

I paid for groceries in Morrison's recently with a load of spare change, then realised I was 7p short - smallest amount I've ever paid by credit card! :rotfl:I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss, Not in the next life, I want it in this, I want it in this

I'd never do a full shop on them - would wind me up
But they're great when just got a few bits - quicker than manned tills too
The only times I've seen stores where you can only use self service and no manned tills are either in the middle of the night or in the small metro stores which are designed for essentials or getting few bits than for a full weeks shop0 -
The have super-size ones in an Asda near me with belts like a manned checkout and an extra large bagging area, I reckon you could easily put a weekly shop through them.
Although I do find the Sainsbury's self scan to be the best of both worlds, scan and pack your trolley as you go, then give the handset to the checkout operator to pay. And with the added benefit of knowing how much you're spending as you go.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

The cheapest prices, generally, tend to be in stores like Aldi and Lidl which don't, to my knowledge, have self-service tills.
They don't really sell branded goods though. It's all cheaper versions of main brand products. Plus they work the staff like dogs so employ less and keep the costs down! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Most Tesco stores operate a self scan only policy after 9pm. No exceptions. Even the cig kiosk was closed when I was picking up a bottle for going to a friend's and she texted me asking me to buy some cigs - this was 9:15pm.
The Asda where I shop has 10 basket self scans and 6 self scans with conveyor belts. Yet they have ONE colleague to man them all. With Asda, you need approval for using any coupon. At least Sainsburys, customers can scan up to £2.50 of their own coupons and Tesco, I think its £10 as I have scanned £8.50 of coupons without help.0
