Same thing happened to me. A friend was moving house and didn't want to transport food, so gave me some of her leftovers, including an opened packet of risotto rice. EEK! Little bugs. Threw the lot away, pronto. Just glad I didn't pour her rice in with mine.0

Everything you never wanted to know about weevils ...

One reason never to buy rice or flour in bulk, unless you are going to use all of it fairly quickly. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Can't believe all you purists threw away good food. What's wrong with a little extra protein, some colour variety among the grains and the added crunch factor!

Thanks for the congrats. It was a year or two before I realised the day I gave up the evil weed was St.Patricks day, but I'm so glad I did :j .
The rice would probably have been fine, I just didn't fancy it and there was only about 4 or 5 portions thrown out (It hadn't cost me anything in the first place- just hope the beasties haven't migrated  )
I took everything out of the cupboard anyway and cleaned it all thoroughly. Luckily it's one on it's own, away from the others.
I was itching all evening!!!:wave:0 -
I'd've just washed the rice & cooked it
I'd never seen these beasties before moving to my first modern flat a few years ago, & I found everything in my cupboards was crawling with them, even sealed & unopened packs!
I moved there from an ancient farmhouse where I bought flour, pulses & grains by the 25 Kg sack & I never saw a single one of them there
maybe they prefer cosy centrally-heated homes?0 -

It's possible that there were other, bigger "beasties" in and around the farmhouse that kept them under control. Nature finds a way, as they say.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

being such an old house it had all sorts of nooks & crannies that you wouldn't find in a modern house, perfect for quite large beasties (a bit of a 'Scottish-ism' that) to hide out in _pale_0 -
oh good point, I never thought of that
