Storing all your flour etc in the freezer stops them too. I have containers in my pantry for the flour etc but my stockpile is in the freezer. I go through flour very quickly as I bake bread, cakes & biscuits regularly but in the hot weather keeping the majority in the freezer is the only way to keep the crawlies out.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

I once found some of these psocids in my flour. Now when I buy flour I put in in the fridge for a couple of days and I haven't seen any since. ( touch wood) I put bay leaves in the cupboards and also whole cloves. Don't know if they work or not though. Just read somewhere that they might keep any creepy crawlies at bay.
  • Cheers, have made Mr Sparkle read and I'm getting my storage jars :j .

Will also freeze my flour etc for 24 hours before decanting.

    Thanks again
  • I always hoover out my flour cupboard every few months, before wiping out and leaving to dry for a few hours before putting anything in.I found that by hoovering along the cupboard edges was the only way these things would stay away. Not had any for a couple of years now. Also open and check flour, when you bring it home before putting it away for the first time.I have on more than one occasion had bugs in bags just brought home.A bag of homepride flour I once bought could have walked home on it's own.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I sent an email to Doves flour a couple of weeks ago as my bag had visitors. I had not had it very long. I just got a feeble reply saying that they are inspected regularly at the mill for this and sent me a leaflet about it!

I thought they could have at least sent a voucher to say sorry. I had to throw loads of cereal away that was kept in the same cupboard as well just in case.

I found bugs in my flour, which promptly got thrown away and I checked the new bag before using, it was free from pesky weevils.

They are harmless and are in the flour because the eggs are as small as the grains of flour so dont get removed in the milling process, so I am guessing the eggs are in my bag of flour and if I dont use it they will hatch. yuk!

I am now going to put the bag in the freezer as this sounds like a good way to kill the eggs off.

Even though I have read they are harmless I dont fancy them in my dinner.

Cheeky lot, are they trying to say the bugs belong to you?

When they check their flour they wont see the bugs because they will be eggs at that stage.

I had weevils in my cupboard from the flour a few years ago. I was horrified, as I'd never even heard of the things, and they were everywhere:eek: Had to throw lots of things out like cereal, sugar etc. Anyway, I was told to put flour in the freezer first. So, that's what I've done since. Don't know whether it works, or not, but I've not had any more creepies in the flour:D
