  • Hi there, I’ve been a long time lurker but felt compelled to comment after your last post about being a month in front with expenses. I made a huge leap into self employment last year after years in a very secure but stressful role. It does create anxiety not having a ‘guaranteed’ wage but like you my first task was to get one month in front, and then I plan to keep adding to that to get to 6 months (will take a while!). I make a small regular overpayment to the mortgage and that would literally be the last thing to go as I feel getting the mortgage paid will give us the breathing space we need. Will keep following with interest, I’m quietly cheering you on

Thank you all for your lovely comments  :)

islandhoppa, it sounds like we are in very similar situations, my ideal is to have 12 months outgoings in premium bonds, and save for all the big jobs required on our home , alongside making regular overpayments.. its a big target, and willtake a while, but who wants easy targets?  ;)

we made it! light covering of snow this morning, and more predicted- lets see..

its strange having a full weekend of, my first in months, i feel a bit out of sync
    .
ive cooked a few meals from scratch, quiche, cottage pies, custard tarts, and chocolate cake, using up eggs and other ingredients already available, and money saving, and means meals ready when we need them.

ive gone back to heating kettle on stove to save electricity, just requires a little pre-planning of drinks, no big effort though when im home based..

ive had chance to enjoy reading my library books too, and im aiming to read more at bed time instead of screen time, more relaxing and helps me sleep better, will need to plan this as i have a habit of watching cr*p on facemuck and yo**ube instead, and then being mad at myself for not reading instead which i enjoy a lot more.

im doing as much as i can to keep our costs down, to enable our savings and overpayments to continue through this 2022 cost of living crisis that is going on..

well a fresh week, after a stormy weekend of floods and gales  :(

its still really windy here, but forecasted to ease by early afternoon, and rain thankfully easing at last, though loads of flooding still.

We are off to do m.i.l shopping and collect her tablets etc shortly, hopefully the roads will be passable..

A dull day here today, got supplies for the next 3 days my little cafe is open, hope not too much rain so people are out and about ..

Paid £1279.67 to the mortgage on the 1st March, which includes this months contractual ammount, the new balance now stands at £174,107.92 :)

interest for February was £13.84 a day, and total overpayments were £143.71. not a massive ammount, but considering ive been on reduced wage due to cafe closures in stormy weather not too shabby! :)
