balance £165,500 after a few more overpayments. Through the summer when im earning more i like to really go for it, this winter is going to be a tough one , less earnings, and literally everything going up in cost.. heavy rain forecast here for today, so cafe closed.. the rest of the week is looking good, so i will work a little longer each day to make up the loss of earnings today.. ive done my meal plan for the week, and im off to the supermarket to get the few bits i need, should be a small shop, but im going to use the spare cash to top up canned goods/cereal etc , who knows what will go up again next week.. strange and uncertain times we seem to be living in at the moment..current official end date of mortgage= 2037-aiming for 1st March 2029. mortgage balance start of challenge- 25/11/2016 £245,695 mortgage balance 05/06/25 - £101,353.67 2025 challenge- get mortgage balance to £95,000 by new years eve 2025, and a years outgoings in premium bonds after water system paid for

Hubby was unexpectadly made redundant which has been a bit of a shock, so job hunting and emergency budgeting for the foreseable until a new job is secured for him.. hopefully wont be too long to preserve the emergency savings.

New balance £162,117.08 to start October

Sorry to hear about the job loss but hopefully it will just be a short break. Also I assume your OPs are there to fall back on plus you have your EF so at least that all relieves some of the stress on you both.DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks fortune and LWAP, having an emergency fund certainly eases the stress, it was same in covid when i was made redundant. Ive no idea how we would have felt if we hadnt got it, we are both overthinkers so i think we would have drove each other mad with worry!
Had a £25 p.bond win, yay!
Hubbys last pay/hol pay coming tommorow, ive done a budget for the next 4/5 weeks using this and my months pay.
Im hoping before the 5 weeks up he will be sorted, and again the emergency fund wont have to be touched.
My ideal scenario is to keep building the fund, alongside overpaying the mortgage, until the balances match, and we can completely pay off mortgage.
Thats what we did with our last house, and it certainly kept us focussed watching the savings grow to the point of pay off!

right, a Sunday night update!
Firstly, hubby starts his new job in the morning! yey!
secondly, after overpaying the last bit of his redundancy pay, we have reached our xmas eve target of £160,000!!!!
im so pleased, we stuck at it even though we had the stress of his job loss and the current financial mess this country is in ..
Also, our emergency fund in the p.bonds is now up to 1 years outgoings, such a relief with all the uncertain times we are going through. Again we carried on saving this through my redundancy, then new business start up, and hubbys job loss. Its taken time, but so worth it.
The mortgage today stands at £159,975.
November is the month i use spare cash for xmas pressies, and food etc. im hoping to make a few small overpayments and savings to bonds too, its all systems go now hubby has a job again thank the lordcurrent official end date of mortgage= 2037-aiming for 1st March 2029. mortgage balance start of challenge- 25/11/2016 £245,695 mortgage balance 05/06/25 - £101,353.67 2025 challenge- get mortgage balance to £95,000 by new years eve 2025, and a years outgoings in premium bonds after water system paid for
