You put far too much in. You should fill up like a f1 pit crew-just enough to get where your going. Think of all the wasted MPG you have carrying around excess fuel. Not to mention additiinal wear n tear on componets and tires.
Also if you were just topping enough then today you would have had a nice empty tank to fill
All that extra weight and wear - that extra 20kg of fuel really makes a difference on 1700kg of car, plus whatever you're carrying.
Instead, keep stopping at garages (using brakes, extra journeys and extra time) to save what is probably a few pence every 100 miles. Excellent logic!0 -

Sracasim is wasted on you. And how do you kniw what the OPs car weighs? And stopping at a garage is not extra journey or extra breaking. It may be extra time but that can be offset against the time saved by only putting in a few litres instead of brimming a tank.
And unrelated: sort your sig out.0 -
No, I like my sig.
Your sarcasm wasn't very apparent - there's a whole load of people out there who really do just put a fiver in here and there to save weight.
1700kg is average for a reasonably large family saloon, so seems like the most sensible assumption. The Government haven't quite got us all into small eco-boxed yet thankfully!0 -

The sig has been removed or you like to make it look like it has. Takes away from what you post as the implication is that you dont know how the forum works with the amount of posts you have.
And the assumption i woukd say is wrong as the op fileed up and lost 60p on a total fill with a reduction of 2p per litre. This impiles that the tank is in the region of 30-40litres theresfore unlikely to be a large family saloon. Id hazard a guess at fiesta sized vehicle.0 -

Who spends £8,000 a year on keeping a car on the road? Nobody I know. Did you accidently put an extra '0' on??? What's more, you would still have travelling costs. In my town, it costs £4.00 for a 7 mile return journey on the bus; I could get 40 miles out of my car for that! Yes you have tax and maintenance and insurance and that, but overall, I spend no more on running my car than my friend who gets buses and taxis everywhere because she can't drive. She has recently started taking lessons, as she is sick of a 3 mile bus journey taking three quarters of hour, when it's a 7 minute drive.
Re; the OP. Firstly, I know what he means; sods law!
Secondly, this is a venting board, for venting. Why are people taking the p*ss out him and mocking his vent?0 -

Is this sracasim again?0 -
I don't use my car as much as I should because I have a free bus pass.
I am sure it has been posted somewhere that driving around with the minimum petrol and filling up every time you used a car was not very economical.
What I do is fill my car up then drive until the low petrol light comes on then do another 15 miles before filling my tank to the brim.
A tankful does me about 3 weeks yet I use my car every day.
Why do I have a car when I can get the bus for free?
Convenience!Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:0 -

I filled up today and it cost 9p less than it was at the same garage last week. It's the first time I've seen it less than 130p in quite some time.0
