I go to stay with family on Friday for a week. Trying not to spend before I leave home. Mr F is staying home with dog - has plenty of food in so shouldn't spend much. I usually pay for some shopping while away - always seem to visit when DS is in the last week before payday.
I will get Mr F to stock us up with Aldo SS before it changes again. Then I can make some casseroles when I get home - stock up the freezer with some HM Winter meals.

spent £1,49 for 5 kg of onion in lidl yesterday. gonna make French onion soup with this recipe http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/335607/roasted-onion-soup-with-goats-cheese-toasts
but without goats cheese as do not have any and do not want to buy any :)
How did your soup turn out? I use an old recipe that doesn't roast onions.

Are you guys including toiletries and booze in your totals?:o
I include all household, food and joint toiletries. Personal stuff like bubble-bath (mmmmm) make-up from own budget. Alcohol has separate budget.

We had the lentil and butter bean casserole.I assume I could cook it in the slow cooker - has anyone tried? I'm also wondering about making a double batch and topping one lot with mashed pots a bit like a veggie shepherd's pie - does that sound like it would work?

I think you can cook anything with liquid in a slow cooker and anything not too wet can go under mash or pastry - I love a pie :rotfl:

Another NSD for me. Looks like lots of us doing the same this month and living out of freezer. Needs must eh

We had the lentil and butter bean casserole mentioned on here tonight and everyone enjoyed it - even DH who didn't even mention the meat word!

I assume I could cook it in the slow cooker - has anyone tried?

I'm also wondering about making a double batch and topping one lot with mashed pots a bit like a veggie shepherd's pie - does that sound like it would work?

I'm marking time here whilst watching the printer print past papers for DS - we are spending a fortune on paper and ink!

I would say both of those suggestions would work well. I still have 2 portions of the casserole left from my firsts batch!! I might try the mash thing tonight as I have a bag of Maris pipers to use!!

Well on the bright side having to completely empty my chest freezer after the disaster, I now know exactly what is in it, I salvaged what I could by a marathon all night cook off, I have more than enough meals to last me through November and December.

So my plan is to use everything up and have a completely empty freezer to start the New Year.

I have an incentive here in that I am helping my DGD to raise funds for
her school Peruvian project in 2015 so any food money I save will go on craft materials etc. Though why I am working so hard to send my precious DGD to live for a month in a Peruvian jungle I don't know, I have the collywobbles just thinking about it.

  • Hubby and I went over the budget last night. We are making some headway in kerbing our spending.
I feel that we will be slightly over our weekly target when it's updated this Sunday.
To come into budget by the end of the month I'm only going to buy essentials. I don't believe that I will be able to buy YS :(

  • Got to give it OH last night, I really really REALLY wanted fish and chips (rubbish day at work plus haven't had takeaway for ages) and I had it all figured out on my calorie counting and everything. BUT he persuaded me not to because we are out all day Saturday at a pub quiz in Southampton and although train tickets and buffet is provided, and drinks will come out of our own money not grocery budget, no doubt we will get home and want takeout rather than cooking. So we didn't get it - score 1 to him!

Confident we can stay under budget this month and considering we had to lower it by £40 from last month I am really surprised!
