I'm trying something new for me this month. I've stocked up so that I have all main ingredients for main meals for the month, so I have spent £110 already, I've had 2 NSDs. I'm hoping I can now spend around £20 or under each week on fresh stuff.

My YS bargains this month so far have been 2 lots of 6 bread rolls for 30p each, we had burgers in them for tea and they have been fine for ham rolls for lunch. I also bought a big tin of beans for 30p and some Crunchy Nut cornflakes for £1.50 as the top of the box had come open, these were from a rack by the storeroom in Sburys. I had tins of posh brand tomatoes for 24p.

I batch cooked mince at the weekend for a cottage pie on Sunday and pasta bake on Monday. Have bought loads of frozen stuff on offer, needed convenient stuff.
  • Well after my day meal planning yesterday I ventured forth to Aldi first to get a few bits that were cheaper than mr s so £24.76 spent there on mainly fresh fruit, veg and toiletries then off down the road to mr s to get all the meat, fish, frozen, non perishables, cat food and remaining cleaning stuff and toiletries for the entire month. Changing tack this month as for a few days only mr s are doing 20% off staff discount so it seemed rude not to exploit it! You had to laugh though because the lady on the till who I know well enough asked if I had a toilet problem because I'd bought 4 jumbo packs of loo roll lol. I did explain and it became increasingly comical when she had to scan a months worth of cat food!!!! ;) After all the 3 for 2's and 20% staff discount it came to a whopping £191.40 but I saved over £48 on staff discount alone. I'm hoping that the next three Thursdays (my shopping day) I'll get by by spending around £20-£40 per week for just the fresh stuff and the packed lunch stuff like crisps etc. Wouldn't dare have bought a months worth of them lol, they'd be gone within a week. We have two freezers which are now full to bursting point and I think for what we spent we managed to get an awful lot with plenty of variety. And to think pre GC we would have spent £170 in a week easily and the rest. I think meticulous planning has helped as we only buy what we plan for now whereas before we'd march in, no list, credit card in hand and just spend. It's amazing how a bit of forward planning can really help. Our wastage is down considerably too, I only threw away a piece of broccoli, some lettuce, the end off the cucumber and some prawns. A far cry from our previous antics :) Off to update sig. X

I need bread, milk, eggs, washing powder, white vinegar & whatever else I can get for my remaining £20.

  • Had to spend some money today at Mr A. Will need to see how much of a dent it makes in my £15.00 when it arrives. Not looking forward to knowing. Will be updating the sig later.

Cleared out the fruit bowl and have decided that the 2 bananas in there need using up. I also have lots of apples on the grass outside that need using up, and we can't just eat them because we have had an outbreak of codling moth (think that's what it's called) so they all need chopping up and using. I'm struggling to find recipes for eating as opposed to cooking apples, although we have eaten lots of apple crumble which has worked. So, as part of my attempt to bake more I have gone through the recipes at the top of this thread and found some banana and some apple recipes to have a go at. Not decided which to try yet - need to go through the cupboards and see what ingredients we have.

Am supposed to be cleaning the house today - hence the baking!
    May spend - £291.40/£320.00
    June spend - £106.40/£320.00

Happy to say not spent much on food, did get 5 packs of bacon pieces in 99p store, 900grms and absolutely lovely big pieces. Portioned up and in freezer for next few months.

However not so happy that this week my computer, house phone and mobile all died. Have spent a fortune on replacing them so thank the lord for my food stocks

On a happier note I am having a lovely time crafting for school funds
for DD and great nieces and nephew schools.

Today I am drying oranges and lemons for pot-pouri bags and the house smells gorgeous.

Got conned with Kidlets birthday tea. Dinosaurs, smiley faces & sweetcorn + cake for pud. Grand total 11.80 for one night!!! Lucky £3 - for 2x 10ish turkey dinos, Smiley faces were a rip off for fancy potatos! 2 large tins of sweetcorn for £1. So will be able to get another meal & kidlets lunch out of it but I felt like all my hard work, learning to live on a stricter budget had been blown in that one little spend. Never mind its not like its their birthdays everyday

I feel your pain! I have a pc tower and laptop currently being fixed and another laptop (DDs) waiting to be fixed. I am currently on youngest's little netbook!! My phone recently had to be repaired too. Hope it's sorted soon.
