TV licence ending dont want to renew

We dont want to renew out TV licence, what should I do please? If I just dont pay it, will they assume we do not want to watch TV anymore? We only watch DVDs and internet, not BBCIplayer or anything you would need a licence for. We just love youtube. So shall I write to them explaining or just leave it and wait till they…

They haven't been overcharging you (by the sounds of it) but when paying by monthly direct debit you pay half in advance and half in arrears. So if you cancel when a licence is about to start you've already paid for half of it so are due a refund.
