TV licence ending dont want to renew

Options
We dont want to renew out TV licence, what should I do please?

If I just dont pay it, will they assume we do not want to watch TV anymore?

We only watch DVDs and internet, not BBCIplayer or anything you would need a licence for. We just love youtube.

So shall I write to them explaining or just leave it and wait till they contact me?

Cancel the direct debit. If you don't want the monthly threatening letters you can contact them online and they'll stop sending letters for a year. However, there is no need to contact them.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • If they send an inspecter and you sign a TVL 178 form you will be found guilty of watching TV without a licence.
    No excuses.
Make sure you know this and how to protect your identity and signature from Capita, the TV licensing people.
Makes absolutely no difference what you are doing, if you are visited and sign a TVL178 you will be fined.
    Be happy...;)

I will never sign anything without legal advice, no probs there. Last time he was very insitent excuse me but this is a legal document you have to sign it. I said well if its a legal document then I definately do not want to get involved.

But what do you mean about

Make sure you know this and how to protect your identity and signature from Capita, the TV licensing people.

This post is very misleading ! If TVL do send an "inspecter" to your premises - be aware that he has NO powers whatsoever. You do not have to speak to him, unless you ask him to leave your property - which he must do. He has no right of entry to your premises. You certainly are not required to answer any questions and you are certainly NOT required to sign anything.

It depends on how you pay for your licence.

If you pay in full, for a whole year up front, then you can just not pay for the next year and do not need to contact TVL if you don't want to.

If you pay in any other way (by Monthly or Quarterly DD, or by payment card) you must contact TVL to cancel the payment scheme and the licence. In some cases, you will be due a refund which they will be happy to pay you.
  • Mine was monthly payments, I completed an online form to ask them to cancel it from a specified date and they did that s well as giving me an automatic refund for an overpayment.

I'm now enjoying the OnDemand access to TV programs along with a Netflix subscription so I'm not really missing much other than ITV Player as thats not on Xbox for the moment

And then they keep all your details and harass you more, not a bright idea really

If they are harassing you give them fair warning then take legal action.

That tends to put them off.
