Can someone please explain what I need to do to avoid having to pay for a TVL - can I watch Sky (via box) without one, if I do watch live TV, can I Sky+ the programme and watch it a few minutes behind real time.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Ms Chocaholic, you will need a TV license to watch or record any live or near live TV broadcast. This also includes Sky. If you watch catch-up TV services then they do not require a TV license.0

Or, if you prefer, not so politely.End the conversation and close the door
Better yet, don't start the conversation in the first place.0 -

You need to stop watching/recording TV broadcasts. Instead, you can watch whatever you like via Catch-up ie. iPlayer, 4OD. Sky is not an ideal platform for this because the Sky box is receiving (and often recording) TV broadcasts whether you are watching them or not.
Check out YouView (you can delete the Live channels) or Roku (which is just for Catch-up). Alternatively, connect your PC, Tablet or Phone to the TV (connections permitting). Some games consoles also have Catch-up capability.
You will need reasonably good broadband whatever platform you use.0 -
Heads up if you're paying by monthly DD - I just cancelled my TV licence and was advised of a £60 refund heading my way.
Seem they've been overcharging me for a while so might be worth picking up the phone...
Good luck!0
