I was looking at the iPhone 5S 64GB on Three's 'The One Plan'. The upfront cost is £99 and the monthly cost is £51. Is the upfront cost fixed or is there an option to pay more upfront to reduce the monthly cost?

The prices for this particular plan will be fixed, but there will be other options available for an iPhone 5S contract either with Three or or networks, which may have higher or lower upfront costs and higher or lower monthly payments.
Although the cost of the phone is covered by the monthly payments what you are paying for monthly is essentially the contract. I would suggest looking for another contract with a higher upfront fee and lower monthly costs from a comparison site.0 -
I am sure it's the former, but you can try negotiating.
Beware that £99+24x£51 equates to a whopping 42.5% APR on £610 'loan'. There are much better ways to borrow.0 -

Or he could just buy a cheap phone which does the same thing.....
It's money saving and he gets the same functions.0 -
Pay £709 to Apple for your 64GB iPhone and then pay £15 per month to Three. The total cost over 24 months will be £1,069, and you will have the following advantages:
- You can switch networks after 12 months (or after 1 month if you choose to pay £18 per month)
- Your iPhone will not be SIM-locked, so you can use local SIM cards when abroad to avoid roaming charges in countries where Three doesn't have a local network.
- You will not by default end up paying an inflated monthly charge after you have paid for the cost of your iPhone.

Over £1000!!!!! I got paid £150 for the last contract i took out a while back from O2.
Got the Desire S launch month for £13.50 with 50 mins, 250 texts and 100mb data. Removed the 100mb data so i was only paying £10.50pm over 24 months= £252.
Sold the Desire S brand new for £310. Got £100 cashback via TCB.
= £150 profit pretty much after factoring in any other costs involved. I pretty much got paid for taking out a contract.
Was using my Three one plan sim at the same time in my older phone. Other sim was backup 2G signal in my dual sim phone. (yes i know i could have cancelled the contract and got 20% off at the time but i wanted to use the SIM as a backup line.)0 -
ZhugeEX, you're not comparing like with like. The OP specifically wants an iPhone, along with iOS 7. You might laugh at the high price of iPhones, but they command high resale values given that they depreciate at a much lower rate than rival phones.0

I don't see any problem when rich people buy Jaguars. The main problem is when poor people that can't afford luxury cars borrow money to buy them and pay through the noses for the loans.0 -

Well this is a money saving site so i don't really see what's money saving about buying an iPhone on launch month.
@grumbler, same point. If this was on a different forum i wouldn't care a bit but because it's on here it strikes me as very weird that people are trying to find ways to save money on buying an expensive phone when you can't and when there are alternatives out there0 -

Agree rich people are allowed to save money too .
That is one of the reasons they are rich .
