Mix some granulated sugar with some olive or sunflower oil, rub into your hands then rinse off with warm water. Slap on some hand cream & rub in well.

Try & apply an intensive handcream last thing at night when you are in bed, if you only manage once or twice a week that's better than nothing ;)

  • Morning All. I am just out of bed and having a relaxing morning. Second day of my October holiday and I am glad of the lie-in. I may even go back to bed later on too. I have been really tired over the past 6 weeks or so - not sleeping properly and feeling under increasing pressure at work.

My fabbing plans for today are:
    1. After breakfast I will do a cleanse, exfoliate, tone and moisturise.
    2. A walk or swim later today - or maybe both.

Today I got a compliment from a man I hardly know, with regards to my 'beautifully manicured' fingers.

I find that little bits of attention to detail and daily routines are the key, rather than trying to do anything major.

I occasionally do the sugar and oil treatment that floss mentioned - I use caster sugar though, just a little palm full of sugar and a teaspoon of oil.

I prefer just a clean and tidy natural look rather than highly polished and try to paint my nails about once a week with a clearish or barely there pink and nude shade, so that any chips and poor painting are not so obvious. I also keep an emery board in my car and in my desk draw and will have a little nail inspection and tidy up any rough or sharp edges whilst stuck in traffic or on the phone at work (if there's nobody else around). :D

On the mission to use up toiletries, I also have hand cream on my desk and try to remember to use it at least once during the day.

    Good evening everyone

A day of two halves here.

The Bad News - it has been confirmed that Dad's lung cancer has returned, together with a further tumour in his throat. I have suspected as much for some time and, although recent tests were negative/borderline, I just knew.......

That's 3 members of my family all more or less terminally ill now.

I know none of us is immortal but it is difficult to come to terms with. It does make you realise how fragile life is and that we really do need to "Carpe that Diem". ;)

On a more positive note. The good news.

I might have mentioned that we had to withdraw from the purchase of my sister's house due to a worse than expected survey. Disappointing for everyone - it was/is a lovely little house in a nice part of town but realistically we couldn't really afford to take it on.

Anyway we've found a "fixer upper" - a little terraced house in a part of the city which is undergoing a bit of regeneration and where the houses are around 25% cheaper. Not as smart or trendy as the area where my sister's house is but hopefully an area "on the up" as they say. :rotfl:

Today I had to wait in for the maintenance man (the joys of renting - someone else gets to do the repairs and maintenance) so I took the opportunity to have a good old tidy up and rummage through my drawers (ooh er missus).

I have now pared my wardrobe right down to things that I actually like and which I feel nice in, just keeping a couple of thick joggy bottoms and a couple of old fleeces for when I'm "on site". I do look a bit of a sight in them but there's no point in getting all dolled up and getting covered in plaster and brick dust......

I now have a pile of old clothes that are really tatty and not fit for the charity shop so tonight I am going to sit and make a couple of draught excluders to fit against the ill fitting patio doors and leave OH to watch the footie in peace.

Once the maintenance man has been back to sort the TV ariel I shall seal up the patio doors for the winter, stuffing the gaps with loo roll and then covering with good old duct tape. ;)

All of the windows here are single glazed so I have bought some bubble wrap and will have a go with that. My nice thick double lined curtains have made a big improvement and my little bungalow is actually quite cosy now. I read the meters every week and so far I'm not doing too badly.

I do the oil and sugar trick on my hands - works a treat, especially after gardening or diy. My nails are generally nice and strong but I have started giving them a bit of extra TLC because in the winter my cuticles sometimes split and they can get very sore.

My feet, knees and elbows can also get very dry and quite sore in the winter so I have started the vaseline treatment on them.

Heard a skein of geese this morning honking their way south.

    Winter is coming!!!!

Hi all, I would like to join you all please!!

I have read lots of your posts in the past and kept meaning to join in but life kept getting in the way as it does. I did the 5 2 diet and by April this year had lost nearly 2 stone but Ive not been so good lately so I know its coming back on so I need to put a stop to that!!

So back to my 5 2 and I must do the perfume thing every day as I have got loads of perfume so no excuse and I will do my eyebrows...I hate doing that but Im too much of a coward to have them waxed!

Right Im going to give this a go..I will deffo do my eyebrows by this time tomorrow and then will think of something else.

Take care all.I love reading all your stories...very good motivation!!..xxx

Thanks Sky! Well, it's sent now so nothing else I can do but bite my nails and hope for the best.

LL - I'm so sorry hun, I know you said before you had your suspicions but horrible to be proved right :( I do hope you can all get him to accept any help needed. Good news on the house though, and nothing like a bit of a project for some distraction!

Well, I'm doing a bit better this week. Have been making more of an effort with clothes, accessories etc. Have just dyed my hair so will see how the colour comes out when it dries - I have annoyingly dark hair and it often doesn't take colour well. Just debating whether to do my nails as well or leave them until tomorrow. My mum and dad are up this weekend so the week will probably consist of trying to get a bit of photo work finished off and getting the house tidy.
Hope everyone is having a good day x
  • I'm so sorry LL. I'm sending you my love xx
