I don't know what's happened here as the OP has deleted her post.

But it appears the dog has somehow hurt the partner while having a bit of rough play.

My dogs play happily with both of us but never too rough. There are grandchildren constantly visiting so the dogs had to be trained to be gentle.

However, if one of them did bite during play - accidentally - the dog would be more traumatised than the one who was bitten!

It's only when a bite happens in an attack that I would consider it to be a serious problem.

OP's OH was rough housing with the dog while OP was out of the house.

The dog's tooth accidentally caught OH's cheek and it bled. No bite.

OH told OP to get rid of the dog or PTS.

Hopefully your OH said what he did in the heat of the moment although I wouldn't want to be with someone who could ever say such a thing.

I have had dogs all my married life and loved them all to bits. I have never been bitten but I have had 2 black eyes over the years where a dog got a bit rough in play. Even if I were bitten, I couldn't just decide that the dog had to go. You can't just suddenly stop loving an animal. Having had to have old ill dogs pts to sleep over the years, me and OH have always been in floods of tears - there is just no way either of us could ever think of having a perfectly healthy animal pts nor getting rid of it.

We actually rescued a cat who was found straying about 6 years ago. He would regularly attack both me and OH, although he did it to me more, biting and scratching. He regularly broke skin and my legs and arms were covered in scratches and bites. I was actually quite scared of him for a while as he would latch onto my legs and just not let go. If I shouted or screamed (which considering how much it hurt I wanted to do) it made him worse. I had to try and stay calm. We did talk about taking him back to rescue but we would have had to tell then what he was doing and there was no way anyone else would want him so he would probably have been pts. After about 5 months he became much calmer. He eventually became a pretty friendly cat although he didn't like being picked up. He would sit on our laps though. He was run over a couple of months ago and we were both heartbroken.

I always get really angry when I hear of women with children who let a new partner treat the child badly, or throw them out of the house (obviously talking teenage children here) etc. I have known a couple of women who have done this and I have always said (and totally meant) that if me and OH split up and I met a new man who illtreated my dog or wanted me to get rid I would get rid of the guy instantly.

  • if you play rough with any animal then they are gonna play rough back, it sounds like an accident, what a bloody wuss your partner is & a b1oody disgrace for wanting rid of a family member
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Perhaps OP's OH told her to delete the post....

Dog issue is one issue, I worry about the OP's situation as a whole.

Thanks Dimey. The O/H sounds like a right idiot with zero respect for his partner's feelings.

If she allows him to control her like this her life will be a total misery because the order to get rid of the dog is only the beginning.

She needs to stand up to him and tell him the dog's staying and if he doesn't like it he can go to hell.
  • Our jack russell pup is now 5 months old. We know that if we get him excited he springs about like a little lamb and he can catch us with his razor-sharp teeth when trying to give us his puppy licks. He NEVER intends to hurt us but has caught us both several times now. Totally our fault for getting fingers in the way! He's only been in our lives for 3.5 months but I literally cannot imagine my life without him already. After 6 years it would be even more inconcievable. I can't comprehend how you are even considering rehoming him. :(
