Audicardriver - NO-ONE is blaming you for the incident! what is going on here is that very experienced, and not so experienced dog owners cannot believe that your OH is telling you to get rid of the dog (either rehoming or PTS) because of an ACCIDENT!
does he not understand that if you roughhouse with a dog there is a risk you will get hurt? even if the dog is trying to be gentle?
It is just not fair on your dog or YOU! this is what we are trying to say to you. your OH is behaving like a wuss, or a child 'Oh the doggy hurt me'! its the doggys fault!
does that sound like a mature adult to you?
I would think long and hard about this if I were you. and then approach your vet to see if he knows of any one who would adopt your Jack Russell if that is what you decide. otherwise approach a JR rescue.
  • Can't believe you'd choose a bloke like that over a dog. If you let him get away with this, what next? What kind of bloke would want his girlfriend's dog put down for such a silly reason.

Don't let this bloke walk all over you or he's going to think that he can get away with doing anything to you.

    Poor dog.

Sounds like your boyfriend is exerting a bit of power and control over you here.

Don't let him, keep your dog, its the right thing to do.

Tell your boyfriend not to wind the dog up in future. From the little information I have, it appears to be his fault.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I'd never get rid of an animal for anyone and if anyone dared to make such a suggestion to me that would be the last I would see of them.

Poor dog, think how it will be affected being dumped. Let alone the sickening thought he suggested it be PTS. Why stay with someone like that..

Your partner is someone I would be wary of.

From your description of what has happened and his response to it, you are dealing with someone who is immature, hot tempered, judgemental, with a big ego, and an unforgiving nature. Plus a self centred, selfish attitude.

Please do not have children with this man. You can do better.
  • I am not convinced this is genuine, BUT if it is I strongly suspect that the OP is already being controlled.
I am also very suspicious that this supposed incident occurred while the OP was out, that too is very convenient....

We have had the dog since he was 8 weeks old .

The dog is 6 yo so you have been with your current partner for 6 years or more?

And you also say in another post that you had nobody to turn to when he said to get rid of the dog?

Has he made you get rid of all your friends during this relationship?

OP - hope you are reading this? Based on your very few posts on here, YOU need some solid support and NOW.

It is not just the dog who's future is a big question mark....

Can you get someone to talk things through with? Fast?

    All the best xxx

Getting ready i think you have said what most of us here already think.i was in a very abusive relationship, well marriage actually, and it is exactly the sort of thing that would happen. He got rid of most of my friends but thankfully my family stuck by me and was the reason i didn't commit suicide it got that bad.The first time i left he threatened to have my beloved dog put down and i knew he wasn't joking so i went back. The second time i took her with me!!

My family stuck by me when i left him and have been wondeful.Perhaps,Audiocardriver, you could ask one of your family or a friend to have the dog temporarily so it is safe ,and then sort out your issues, cos i am sure you don't really want to spend your life with a man who reacts so badly at such a small incident.
  • Thanks for all the advice it has given me plenty to think about. I appreciate all your comments.
