Wow so much engagement talk, I'm almost jealous! OH and I have been together for 7 years and there are no signs of a proposal. My OH is a bit like Peter Pan and doesn't want to grow up, having a fianc!e or a wife would be too grown up :rotfl:
Yay on the trip to Barcelona for your engagement
I can't believe he has had the ring for two years! If my OH ever bought a ring, I would consider myself engaged as soon as I found out he had bought the ring. So if I went with him and had seen it, I would consider myself engaged immediately :rotfl:
I have heard that it should be between 1 and 3 months salary and most of my friends seem to think this is the norm. Those that are engaged or married, have rings which appear to be within these price ranges for their OHs salaries. However they are all fairly materialistic people

Hey fmess!! How are you??
Is engagement something that you would want?? I am quite daft as I would love to get engaged but I am not that fussed about getting married. I like the idea of a massive honeymoon more.
OH wanted to wait until he was more settled (with a job and stuff as he was a student then) and I respected that which is why I have waited.
However, if he doesn't propose on the 28th april then I am going to sulk as it will be four years since we started dating and four years until the wedding. It helps my OCD a fair bit and kinda calms me down after waiting for ages.
Yes, we have a date for the wedding but that's about it. However, I know a lot about the honeymoon. Three weeks to a month going across the US of A. It's going to be amazing.
:rotfl:
Hope you both have a good evening.

A month of travelling across the USA sounds like a great honeymoon trip
Is it a road trip that you are planning?
I would really like to do that, I never have been to the USA, and I would like to go but there are so many different places there, I don't know wether to go for theme parks, big cities, coast, mountains, or desert but a long roadtrip would let you see a bit of everything:D

Our plan is to eventually go to every state but the honeymoon is going to be going from west to east. Either finishing in NY or florida depending on which is cheaper to fly home from.
The plan is to go see major cities this time, hopefully spending 3 days in each place with a travel day in between. Unsure whether we are taking a campervan or just flying and hotelling it. I would like a campervan so I can see stuff en-route and maybe divert if something good turns up on the signposts.
If we see somewhere that is just amazingly brilliant then we can come back for a longer, more specified to that area holiday.
We want our honeymoon to be something memorable that we doubt we would ever be able to do again which is why we are touring across america. We want Florida (disneyworld), New York, Houston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Washington D.C.
Well, that's the plan at the moment and we obviously have four years so it might change. (It's obviously not in the right order either or that wouldn't be very west - east).
It's always good to have a dream and this honeymoon is part of mine. Travelling around the world with my OH, taking pictures of everything. Smushy but I can't help it.
:happyhear
Have a good night.

hey
I'm good thanks, just home for an hour after work before going tutoring.
I'm not too bothered about getting engaged or married, probably because OH isn't, and being married would only change my name.
Your honeymoon plans sound lovelyMy friends planned on doing that and then opted for a beach holiday as planning the wedding was so stressful!

Hey fmess... glad to hear you are managing to get some tutoring still. Are you managing to balance it so you still get some "you time"??
The wedding isn't really going to be stressful (I don't think) as we have already decided that there is going to be about 15 of us there which automatically reduces the stress for me.
My big anxiety about a wedding was to walk down the aisle in a dress and everyone stare at me (I always feel uncomfortable in dresses and hate people staring at me). I also had this fear of standing with my new husband trying to introduce him to family members that I don't even know (I have over 100 family members) and making a donkey of myself.
So, immediate family of 15 altogether, a nice hotel, a lovely wedding and then come home and have a massive party (with me in trousers). Brilliant.
OH is slowly beginning to drive me crazy so might be no marriage after all.
He was out late last night as his work got taken out for a meal. Came home (no alcohol as was driving) and as we walked home from my parents, he told me that he would book barcelona when we got in. Two hours later and I casually asked if he was going on his laptop tonight. "No" was the response.
The stag party was paid for before he had even gotten the time off okayed but the engagement holiday is clearly not as important. Oooooooooooh, I was so grumpy. I am just frustrated as when he put off booking Paris, it went from £401 each for 3 nights to £992 each for 2 nights which is crazy!!
And now I can see the same happening for Barcelona after I have picked a hotel and started planning everything. So I was feeling a bit rotten and meh. However, feeling better as I spent the rest of the evening planning our holiday to NYC.
We are going to save in order to go... so it will be our first proper saved for holiday together (always gone on the credit card before) and OH has said we can go for 7 - 10 days so I am looking at everything. Last night was touristy stuff, today appears to be food!! One of my favourite subjects.
Anyways, enough ranting. I am hoping for a spend-free day today. Spent about £4 yesterday which isn't too bad I suppose.
Also, in money wow related news... checked my budget account and I still have £60 left in it!! SIXTY POUNDS!! This is a miracle!!

Being the naughty little scamp I am, I am going to treat my mum to a lunch out on Friday (max £20).
Hope everyone has a lovely day. i am away to snooze on my parent's sofa. (got freaked out by mice last night so moved out when OH went to work).

Work called this afternoon... short of a nurse for tonight and was I interested. So heading to work in an hour.
Mentioned booking barcelona to OH (beginning to feel like I am a complete nag) and he decided he wanted to wait until I was there to help. So I suggested doing it before I go to work (bearing what happened to Paris in mind) but he doesn't want to... and isn't keen to do it tomorrow either.
Long story short... I have given up. The way it is going, I am beginning to fall out of love with getting engaged.
On the plus side... still planning new york. Now on to the restaurants.
:rotfl:
Spend day again today cause we ran out of bread, boo hiss for stupid spends. However, bought mum and me a meal deal each for tomorrow instead of going out for lunch. so that was £6 instead of £18 which is a bonus.
I am feeling pretty pleased with how we have done money-wise this month and hope to repeat this in February. As a result, I am not planning February!!

It must be disappointing to miss out on the Barcelona trip, that sounded like a nice trip without breaking the bank.
I hope you will be able to find another nice place to get engaged
I had an email from work today they want me to do a management training course, which is in 6 one day modules over the year. I agreed to do it and it should be 6 days extra pay, not a huge amount but still will help a bit.
I hope the work goes well tonight.

Your OH sounds like mine; always says the right thing but rarely gets round to doing it. I now only believe stuff is real when happens and nod along when he says anything related to future plans
Hope you have a good extra shift at work. I've had lots of tutoring work which is fantastic but keeping me a bit too busy. Today I nearly cried with relief when I found out tonight's tutee was not feeling well and wanted to cancel. I know it means less money but I'm tired this week and have 90 pieces of coursework to mark so I used the time to do some marking in my onesie

I am actually close to giving up right now. I can't even explain how frustrated and upset I am.
I worked last night as a favour to my work and have Saturday night off (burns night so I am really pleased). I spoke to OH about heading up the road to see my parents (they have a weekend home up on the north coast) and have burns night with them. OH agreed. Told me it was a brilliant idea so I told my parents and my mum got all excited about us coming up.
Tonight, he has changed his mind and decided he needs to study instead. So, being a stubborn witch and being so frustrated with the lack of everything!!, I am heading up north anyways.
Plan is to come home, sleep until about 12:30 then drive up. It's not ideal but I am not compromising on this.
It's a two hour drive!! It's free accomodation, free food, free drink and we only have to pay for petrol!!
Oh well, away to work again for another night. No engagement trip booked although I am not going to ask him about it again. He can make the decision and speak to me when he is ready to book. I am fed up of trying and getting nothing back.
On a positive note. I am on with some great staff tonight and we are having a chinese!! (not very MSE but I feel I am allowed it).
Is your OH really like that too fmess?? Is it a man thing?? (sorry matt). Do you get frustrated too?? Or are you used to it now?? Maybe matt's OH is like that too?? It's maybe not just a man thing. That is maybe very sexist of me. Sorry.
:undecided
Glad you managed to get a night off tutoring fmess and congratulations on your management course matt!!
:j
Hope everyone has a better evening than I have had and see you all tomorrow. (From up north probably).
