Love that layer cake. I was planning on trying a four layer one for bonfire night and calling it a firework cake. Do you think there would be enough mixture in that recipe to do four smaller layers?

Oooooo! You have to put those sweets that pop in your mouth in it!!

  • yes - iammumtoone - put popping candy in it! I had a recipe for popping candy once! I suppose you mix it in just at the end before putting into the cake tins?

That really would be a fireworks cake! with mini indoor sparklers in the top!!!!!!!

:) We would definitely need a photo of that! :)

I reckon there would be but it's just a plain cake batter so you could easily just make more. There is definitely plenty of frosting!!

I've had problems with popping candy before. The problem being if you put it in with something wet it starts popping and is then just chewy. Would probably work if you put the cake in the fridge so the frosting sets then sprinkle on the top.
  • I have a Christmas Cake recipe which I think came from an old schwartz spices recipe book many years ago, it is a really delicious cake with loads of fruit in it and a fair amount of brandy  and herein lies my problem. I totted up the cost of buying all the ingredients from Mr T's and it came to an eye watering £26.00! So to bake or not to bake that is the question. Does anyone out there have a tried and tested recipe that comes in a bit cheaper or should I just think what the heck it's only once a year, I get a lot of pleasure from seeing how much my family enjoy it - even if they are eating it for weeks into the new year :D

Worrying won't stop bad stuff from happening, it just stops you from enjoying the good.

I've got this problem too. I thought about doing hubby's family a christmas cake this year to cut down on present costs but all the ingredients will actually cost a small fortune and I won't even be left with any of them leftover to use in other things. I'm thinking I might just do Christmas cupcakes and other small Christmassy bakes that make use of the ingredients I regularly buy.

    Peanut Butter and Chocolate Brownies....

Sadly I didn't even get to try one, my OH took them to his work and they scoffed the lot. Didn't hear any complaints tho!
