So tired of ordering steaks rare and getting them well done.

I once lifted a chop off my plate to find green phlegm under it. Another time I saw a waiter I worked with wipe his glans over a plate before the chef put the food on it because a customer had been rude. Both these places were supposed to be gastropubs.

His 'Glans'? what do you mean?

That's the proper name of a part of a male primate including humans.

I enjoy my steaks however they're cooked, if they're free.

But if i'm ordering it from somewhere that gives the impression they can cook well i want what i'm paying for.

Medium rare is my preference but the usual place i go has a different idea on medium rare than i do, so i order them rare and they come oyut medium rare instead.

The only time i've been disappointed with my steaks though is when i asked for it rare, and it came out blue. Rare and raw are two different things.

A growing irritation for me as I've started to take my steaks medium.

Some of the best and worst steak was from the same family restaurant, a week apart.

First steak comes out perfectly fine, a great cut and somewhere between med-rare and medium.
The next week a well done steak, they even have the gall to stick a little 'medium' flag in it.

Totally up to the chef, other than going to a steak house I have learn to accept either sub par cooking or going for something else.

SWMBO and I had a holiday to Madeira many years ago. We went to a restaurant and ordered Chateaubriand.
Realising that continental cooking differs from UK we asked for it to be well done (expecting it to come out medium) ... it came out BLUE!

If we'd asked for it to be medium it probably would have still been mooing!

PS - that image is screwing up the forum. Please replace it with a smaller version.

If you go to Madeira again, go to Kontiki Restaurant, you cook the steak yourself. Fabulous steak :)

My son likes rare steak. On the occasions we get out and steak is an option, he tells the waiter "I like it runny"...

So far, even in Wetherspoons, this has raised eyebrows, but sir has got the steak barely cooked the way he likes it. Me, I'm gradually going thin veggie, as watching his plate dribble red does nothing for my appetite.
I can't honestly say I'd advocate using an eight year old's language buit in this case, on this subject, it seems to work.

    Haha!

I just tell them to wipe its behind and slap it onto a plate.

If a good vet can revive it, its cooked to perfection.

It's happened again. In quite a smart London pub. Asked for it rare. It came medium well-done. Sent it back, showing the waitress the picture I now have on my phone which illustrates levels of cooking of a steak, saying how it should be red on the inside. Next one came medium. I despair.

Do you use Tripadvisor to do reviews of restaurants?

I would put a review on of the places that can't cook a steak in the way the customer has asked for it to be cooked.
