So tired of ordering steaks rare and getting them well done.

When we went to the Czech Republic 2 years ago I got a rare steak that was fantastic. Juicy, blood pouring out when a knife was sliced through it. Cooked on the outer layer but red through the rest. It was cheap as well, just wonderful.
Not got a clue in this country.
Agreed. I don't think it's a problem on the Continent.0 -
If it doesn't arrive at your table cooked the way you have asked for, why wouldn't you just send it back?0

I always order rare steaks in restaurants. In spite of this, at least half the time they come well done, at least in the UK. I hate to complain because I know the restaurant will have to find another steak and be unhappy about that and then I have to wait again for my meal.
Weird, my experience is the direct opposite. I always order well done and sometimes get rare. It's someone else's fault.0 -

The problem with that of course is if you are out with friends what happens to their meals, are they all sent back or do they carry on eating and then you eat alone? It's someone else's fault.0 -
It happened yesterday. In a good pub charging £17 for a steak. There was no way anyone could say my steak was rare. So I complained and they were very apologetic and gave me a replacement very quickly, plus a free dessert. So clearly that's the way to go in future.0

It's a matter of very precise cooking time.So enough staff to have time to attend to this.
If I was the op I'd give up eating steak in restaurants and eat it at home instead.0 -
Just as an aside, to the people on about blood running out and bloody steaks, it's not actually blood.

Possibly because some chefs hate humanity and making yourself a target isn't going to make them warm to you. I hate to think what Michael Winner's eaten in his time.
I once lifted a chop off my plate to find green phlegm under it. Another time I saw a waiter I worked with wipe his glans over a plate before the chef put the food on it because a customer had been rude. Both these places were supposed to be gastropubs. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
