i really dont know where to put this but you guys have always been great so you might be able to give me some ideas

there is a little boy in my area with a very aggressive form of cancer he is only a couple of weeks older than my daughter his family have exhausted everything that they can do in the UK and now need to raise a serious amount of money to take him abroad for treatment

does anyone have any ideas on things i could set up to help raise money for his treatment?

    Sponsored head shave
    Sponsored walk
Community fun day (games, stalls, etc)
Raffle - could ask local businesses for prizes
    Quiz night
    Curry night
Could ask local businesses/sports clubs etc. for donations
  • You could set up a Just Giving page and promote it by sharing it amongst your friends on facebook/twitter etc. and use tea lovers suggestions as ways to raise money through sponsorships.

  • he has a just giving page but it doesnt seem to be attracting much money

his family have done sponsored days etc to pay for his last round of treatment but the cancer has come back again so we are trying to boost the coffers to pay for the new treatment he now needs but thanks for the ideas so far keep them coming!

  • In my experience of fundrasing over the years, while everyone feels good about giving to a good cause, it's unfortuately true that you're more likely to get people giving if people feel like they are getting something in return for their donation.

In the same matter, doing something fun and exciting is always going to get people talking, anything that focuses on the negative will just make people feel hopless.

When it comes to what you actually want to do, are you talking between a few people or between a community and beyond? Smaller fund raisers can be achieved with cake and coffee mornings, Saturday fun day involving the street you live on.

Going bigger you approach local businesses for donations and in return their name is mentioned at the event/on the flyer/on the website. Bigger still does someone know a minor or major celebrity who has previously got involved with similar cancer charities? Getting them to mention it on their twitter page, this gets press attention....

You can do wonderful things with fundrasing and with a bit of time and thoughtful effort you can get great results.

    Good luck!

If you know any fitness instructors maybe something like a zumbathon. I raised almost 3 grand for the stroke association after my gran died.

How about a mile of pennies and small copper change...either the local area could do it or perhaps his school/play group...everyone donates what small change they have on a particular day and you see how far you can make it go on a local pavement etc...

Car boot sale? See if the TV would be interested in running a story, The sun often has appeals in? The local paper?

Facebook groups can be hit or miss - but with the right picture/name it could bring in thousands. Set up a just giving site like someone suggested, set up the facebook group and be creative....

Their are far few that suceed this way as you need to come up with something orignal and that grabs peoples attention...I can't find link to show you but one I am with has about 100k likes for a little boy who needs a kidney (although they arent actally fund raising just rasing awareness) but I think it started with him holding a sign saying 1,000,000 likes to get me a kidney...

Edit found the link if it works ; https://www.facebook.com/#!/AMillionLikesForAKidneyForMatthew?fref=ts

Local Tv, Radio, Newspapers. My sister did Shave or Dye and raised a lot. I know that that is just a drop in the ocean for overseas treatment that is why perhaps the bigger stage such as tv would be better.

Parents of a little boy I know who died from a brain tumour, set up a charity in his memory (to provide psychologists for children with brain tumours and their families) and have worked tirelessly to raise over £160,000 in the last 4 years. They, and their supporters, have organised a huge amount of different events etc. You could have a look at their web page (also links to their Facebook page with even more ideas):
