Make sure you put your money in an account earning interest.
I have a Santander 123 account and get about £12 in interest and cashback each month (after the monthly fee). That will of course grow as savings grow.
That can add up to hundreds of pounds over the course of the year.
Anything you can sell?
I make all purchases on credit card then pay in full each month. This allows me to maximise interest as there's more in my account throughout the month.
Look at the big picture with expenses; e.g. It's cheaper in the long run to pay for insurance in one lump sum rather than monthly. What will your verse be?

Hello everyone, thanks for popping in.
Had a look online don't think I can save much but have moved £200 into the savings account.
We are away on holiday the week beginning the 14th. This is something I am still not comfortable with as I think the money spent could go much further but DH has put his foot down and said we are going.
DH had a bit of good news at work, there is going to be some new jobs advertised at the next level up and he has been told to apply. The new jobs wont start till January but will come with a £3K pay rise. Not getting our hopes up but this would be a great help to us IF he got it.
Mattye mentioned checking we are putting our money in a good interest account. I have checked the one our money is in and it is onlt 0.5%. So will spend the next few days having a look at better accounts.
We went out with the kids to get DH birthday present and we were very good and resisted buying our lunch out :money:
Dinner tonight is roast chicken and all the trimmings, looking forward to it.0 -
Goodness I had not realised how long ago it was I had last logged on.
Have been very busy and been on holiday. Got bag very late last night so spent today catching up on washing and getting the kids sorted for going back to school tomorrow.
Moneysaving went out the windo (which I thought anyway) while away but now we are back we need to get out heads down and save like mad.
Working Tues/Wed this week, kids and DH back to school/work tomorrow so I have peace tomorrow to really get started on saving money.
Pay day at the end of the week. MIL put some food in the fridge for us coming back and I had some meals in the freezer so really hope I don't need much shopping till pay day but we will see.
right off to catch up on other parts of MSE then an early night as I am absolutely done in.0 -

Kids and DH are at school/work so peace at last
Every Monday I get a text from the bank letting me know my balance. Today I am £5.13 over drawn so need to move some money from the saving account to cover this.
I don't get any overdraft charges unless I go into my overdraft by £300 so I have no worry over charges but would prefer to be in the black.
This month as I mentioned before will not result in us saving very much but as a positive I will have paid off 2 debts leaving me £151 a month better off :T
So from next month I will have £151 to pay into the savings. Over the next 11 months this will be £1661 towards our goal :T
I have checked the cupboards and freezer and we should have enough food to last the week with just topping up milk and bread. Which is just as well as I have spent all our food budget this month
November is a birthday month for us so need to have a think on what to get DD. She doesn't need anything but being 12 she of course thinks she needs soooo many things and I am unreasonable to suggest otherwise
Need to check on the gas and electric meters. Only have £20 left out of the original £100 so hopefully I wont need to spend this and the £20 can go in the savings pot but we will see.0 -
You can do it! I've always thought that saving money for yourself would be easier than paying off debt to someone else. Never been in a position to test the theory though!
You are being very unreasonable with your DD though, at 12 there are hundreds of things she will literally die if she does not get.
Hope this week is finding you well!£10781.62 by 23/04/2014 :rudolf:
