Ok this may be silly question, I'm thinking of getting rid of my landline very rarely use it BUT my mom uses it to ring me.
I have Skype on laptop, could she have Skype on her landline to call me via laptop?
    Thanks

You need to get a local phone number from Skype, so she can call that - at the normal landline rates.

Skype charge for issuing and owning a local number.

There are proper (grown up VoIP) providers out there that don't charge for a local number and no monthly charges - and as Skype are one of the dearer providers, most other VoIP providers out there offer cheaper calls for call to regular numbers.

For example https://www.sipgate.co.uk - Sipgate to Sipgate calls are free as are to some other VoIP providers they peer with.

Skype is proprietary, that's why they've been losing loads of customers as they move up to grown up VoIP.

Just a shame, Skype is proprietary and you need them connected to a PC and the PC switched on at all times, shame Skype to landline / mobile calls are some of the dearest in the VoIP world, in fact you can make cheaper calls from your BT landline using indirect carriers.

However we were getting lots of sales calls on the fax line and so I registered the VOIP line with TPS (have since deregistered this line). Now I can only send faxes I keep getting error codes for receivd faxes. Anyone have any Ideas?

Does anyone have a spare VoIPTalk.Org account with a geographical incoming number that they are not using which I could have? They now charge 2.99/month for an incoming number for new accounts :(

The Betamax brand of services (VoIPStunt etc) only allow one person to be logged in at a time.

You could set up 2 accounts and even with no credit calls between accounts are free.

Why doesn't your g/f set up her own voip stunt, etc account in HK?

Or the option if its just to chat to your g/f via voip, why not just use Skype to Skype calls.

basically to enable calling to mobile phones. I already speak to her on msn and skype calls. I was wondering whether there are voip services which allow you to pay monthly for unlimited calls.

    Many thanks

Thanks for the above advice, I really am impressed by your depth of knowledge of these services :). I was about to ask the same question. It is a shame really as I have 2 different IP's at different locations with 2 ATA's and it would have been handy to use the same account to make all calls through it.

Secondly thanks for your reply to my PM about the VoIPTalk service. For the benefit of other users here I thought to dig a bit deeper and they still offer the redirect service on their accounts, but I don't really want to spend £2.99 a month for the privelege. I have found a work around, which is going to take a bit of work, but when implemented should work well!

I am going to setup JustVoIP for outgoing as (to my knowledge) they still offer the cheapest rates to the UK and longest (120) free days of all the Betamax providers AND sipgate with the free incoming number. If anyone knows any better, let me know.

When I have got the solution working, I will post it on here.
