Happy New Year...
Bit late again....:D
Not a lot to report... OH gone off on his holiday so a nice quiet and reasonably clean house.. I seem to have been washing his clothes from his floordrobe for days...:rotfl:
dd still writing essays.. only about a week to go, she's doing well and hopefully will get the right results for them..
I have been on the treadmill.. twice since NY.... go puzz....
Dreadful nights sleep last night but I'm off to the office shortly and then on a visit.. home again for a dose of treadmill and daily number count on said essays... and then the usual Friday night in front of the TV.. we are watching a film every evening.. wonder what it will be tonight...
No money news... all okay at the minute although hope to do some spending at the weekend on new bedding/duvet/pillows etc.. my Christmas present to myself..
Hope all good in your worlds..

Well where has January gone? Can't believe OH will be back from his travels on Wednesday and dd going back to uni house tomorrow.. I will get 2 nights to myself and as I have 9 days leave left to take before the end of Feb have booked Monday and Tuesday off...
So what's been happening.. dd submitted essays, no results as yet but a much calmer house since mid Jan...
The poor treadmill.. I have been on about 7 times but not in the last 2 weeks.. lazy puzz.. hoping to get into a routine once OH back and dd back to uni.... she says...:rotfl:
Money news..
Well payday is next Wednesday and I have £45 left in my account.. I do have £180 cash so will be fine.. dd having haircut today so that's £50...:eek::eek:
Have had lots of expenses this month including £105 vets bill, £215 car parking permits, £40 trains to take books back with dd to her uni.. etc etc..
I did quite a lot of overtime last month which I have been paid, also no water or council tax so my holiday pots will get a nice boost after Wednesday..
Had a lovely night out with my girlfriends Friday week and we have already booked another for late Feb...
Anxiety has been quiet due to changes I have made in the household with my cats... Its cat fighting I can't stand and if mine are in, then they are not out fighting.. They don't seem too bothered but not sure its sustainable when the weather gets nice.. maybe i'll have seen the NHS by then...:rotfl:
With the leave I have left I was toying with doing something with LM.. if you have read my diary you will note that not all the trips we have done have been a success, so maybe I need my head testing thinking of this.. I also have a free night in a hotel I need to use by early March... umm.. thinking... although I don't have a passport as its in for renewal.. another £75.50 !! Used my Christmas money for this, along with all bedding, duvet and pillows..
Also met up with LF and his partner, he seems okay in himself but then he can't remember anything and certainly hasn't had any tests for his memory..:( (He was diagnosed with mixed dementia in December..)
Anyhow.. best get something to eat and get ready to take dd to hairdressers..

Morning...
Nothing to exciting to report but at least we got rid of January..:j:j
Made it to payday and all pots replenished..:D
I decided against the idea of doing something with LM to use up my leave, I don't think we would get on very well and I also don't want to spend any money..:rotfl:
I have had a few wins on the lottery... No millions mind, but more pennies for the saving pots....
Not feeling well today, so have cancelled my appointment and will just head into the office and do some admin a bit later...
Still not been on the treadmill.. maybe one evening this week if I feel better...:D
That's about all folks...

I always try to catch up with your news, Puzz, andf am sorry not to respond and post on your diary more often:o
Not going anywhere with LM sounds like a good idea at the moment. No need to spend money you don't want to/can't afford doing something you know from experience will not be very pleasurable. Well done for resisting:T
Congrats too on the lottery. Wins in the plural! Go you:beer:_party_:dance:
Sorry to read you aren't feeling too chipper at the moment. Sending hugs xxx
I'm feeling very weird at the moment for the most bizarre of reasons:eek:. I just couldn't sleep last night which is odd in itself. Normally, as soon as my head hits the pillow I'm out like a light however much is preying on my mind. Eventually got up at 3.am, made a cuppa or 3 and eventually, as it was just starting to get light, fell asleep in the recliner downstairs. Just been woken with an almighty jolt by a courier banging on the patio door of the room I'm in:mad:. Good thing too, probably as there's too much to do instead of sleeping. DH has made his own breakfast (well, looks like he poured a few cornflakes and milk into a bowl which is the height of meal prep for him:rotfl:) and gone out. I never heard a sound:j
The reason for my anxiety is that I received a letter yesterday from one of the big banks telling me they'd upheld my PPI claim (sent off speculatively on deadline day:o). I was almost 99% sure I never had PPI and have already reclaimed and received everything I could from everywhere else:j. The upshot is that they've awarded me, wait for it...….almost £30k:eek:. I skim-read the letter as just over £2900 and I was over the moon by that. DH asked if he could read the letter and quickly told me I'd read it wrongly. Cue for my heart to sink, I imagined it must be £29 or something. Imagine my disbelief when it turned out to be over £29k payable. They'd also deducted nearly £3500 in tax, it would have been over £33k otherwise:mad:
Martin told how to reclaim tax on PPI payments on his programme last night and I might have a go but at the moment I feel really anxious because I just don't think the bank got this right:eek:. No way should I receive this amount. I know I only had that card for a short while and didn't use it much anyway. It dates from the early 1990s and they said their full records don't go that far back. There were several pages of calculations in their letter which I still can't understand even after practically reading the type off the paper. I'm waiting for the cheque now and won't believe it has actually happened until I get it and it's safely cleared. I have this horrible dread though that they'll write and say they made a mistake and send me a much smaller amount (which would still be very welcome by the way). Also, I'm worrying that I might get the full amount, bank it and spend it only to be asked to repay it. As for the reclaiming tax, although it's around £3500 I'm tempted to let it go rather than risk drawing attention to myself:o
Sorry to hijack, Puzz. My mind is whirring and I've nowhere else really to confess my problem.0 -
That's really interesting that you have received a rep,y now. I put in a late PPI claim in mid August for an account that I could prove I had paid PPI insurance on but have only had a letter saying that the bank is investigating. I was wondering if they had forgotten about it now, but clearly if yours has just come through, these claims are still being processed.
Hope the shock wears off soon.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

Don't worry about the bank forgetting about you. Apparently they have all been completely overwhelmed by people submitting claims at the very last minute. Many of these will have been speculative but if they were received by deadline day the banks are duty bound to investigate them fully. Yours sounds like a legit claim but it will be caught up in the logjam:(
I sent off a claim for DH on deadline day. He was adamant he never had PPI on anything in his life (unlike me:o) but on sorting some of his old paperwork prior to shredding he found a letter from one of his old credit card companies with details of PPI on it:eek:. He couldn't even recall ever having a card from that bank:rotfl:.He only had the one statement but I submitted a claim for him via Resolver. He received 4 letters from the bank between then (end of August was it???) and last week saying sorry for the delay and they were still investigating. Upshot was that they owed him nothing as he never used that credit card and so never paid any PPI:(. No wonder legit claims like yours are taking so long if they had an avalanche of duds like his to have to give equal attention to.
I hope you'll hear something soon. Good luck on a happy outcome:beer:
EDIT: just checked online the bank account associated with that card that awarded me the PPI redress. I hardly ever use that account but as it's free I kept it open because there's a 'real' branch in my nearest town. My main bank is online only. The PPI money was paid in by transfer overnight. The whole promised amount is there:eek:. The letter said it would be up to 28 days but it was only 5 from receiving the letter and getting the money paid in:j0 -

:j:j:j:j:j Wow that really is a 'lottery' win... go you.....
I never took out ppi, so don't know much about the reclaim process.. I assume this is what you paid out and is returned as was mis sold or similar.... or is it compensation.. my knowledge is that poor !!!!
Either way well done, keep it safe... I'd have to check it was right before spending it personally, but you may well be much braver than me.... Enjoy... xxChristmas 2020 £109

Thank you:T
The payment is mainly for interest going back yonks, not what I paid as that's what's baffled me. It also includes compensation for commission paid unknowingly to the bank for the privilege of having the cover;), and also redress of various kinds. I can't make head or tail of the bumf that came with the letter but once I've got my brain back in gear:rotfl: I'll have a closer look.
I've reclaimed and been awarded PPI over the past few years on a variety of cards and loans but they only came to about £1500 each, a couple of storecards were only £700. They all paid more than I expected and I was totally happy with the amounts I received:j. I don't recall using this latest card any more than I did the others, that's why the amount awarded was such a shock:eek:. I could have understood if it had been a mortgage but it was just a credit card.0 -
Poor puzzcat didn't make it through the changes to the new forum, so despite the forum's admins best attempts I've gone rogue and had to create a new username so a new diary will be on its way....0

Actually scrap that, as I can still post on this diary so may as well keep it open.. I've just got a slightly longer name....1
