...and the thing that strikes me about some of the replies on here are it's a little bit revealing about just who is tolerant (or possibly more than tolerant;)) of drug use. It's easy to rule out the comments that should be ignored (eg that totally unjustified one calling you a troll:cool:).

You are perfectly entitled to be upset at someone pulling this stunt in your home. As I've said, if any of my previous lodgers had so much as hinted at drug use then they would have been out on their ear so fast their feet wouldn't have touched the ground.

Sorry if I called you a troll and you are not but this is one pot plant outside which will die very quickly in this weather to you could just throw it in the bin if you are really worried.

A young persons house without someone smoking in the garden would be unusual.

Maybe you should move to your own place where you have more control of the environment.
  • To be honest, I'd be more concerned if he was drinking all times of day, much more violent than a couple of joints will make him, It'll just make people hungry, and need those 3am trips to Tesco.

From what I've read, he was growing it for the sake of it, most of the time weed doesn't grow overly well outside, and especially now the weather is getting worse. He was most likely given it, and he has no idea what to do in reality.

In other news, one plant won't get you raided, especially one that's outside and hasn't even flowered yet. Most plants don't have the scent whilst growing either.

just deny all knowledge of said plant if it all comes on top, could just as likely be a random seed from bird food or that a bird has pooped out that has taken , cannabis is a variety of the hemp plant that contains high amounts of thc and looks exactly like a non thc containing hemp plant which has thousands of uses although you still need a governbent licence to grow it , either way if the police turned up and found one poor random plant at the bottom of the garden they would pull it up, tread on it and tell you not to waste their time in future

Maybe where you live - but I have lived in a lot of shared houses and no-one in them smoked weed.
Altough weed does not have the same side effects as alcohol or tobacco, it does still have some side effects, prolonged use can cause depression so its not a good thing that we should simply ignore and well it is still illegal.

All this comparison with the situation involving a lodger is a red herring.

Totally different scenario, both legally, and in terms of the relationships of the people involved.

As for your case guest101, I'm sceptical, but willing to be convinced: hunt out the case in question.

It's really not helpful quoting a case you have forgotten, which may not exist, from 'a long time ago', where the law might have changed.

In what way is that useful, or interesting?

Come on! - you have a lot to contribute to the forum, but let's keep it relevant and reliable!

You're right, its not helpful. sorry. It was 10 years ago, so i cant even remember the names. I'll look into it, and see if i can find any of the materials.

I'll avoid 'long shot' comments in the future

I'm a young person and I don't smoke in the garden - guess I'm unusual! None of my friends do, my sibling, cousins... We must be a rather odd bunch!

On BBC1 now "Street Patrol UK" showing eviction enforcement and police search powers over cannabis use in rented properties.

Probably available on iPlayer later ...

Not at all. Smoking is unfashionable in many younger person's circles. The key difference between now and the 'old days' is that the issue of passive smoking is better appreciated, so people usually smoke outside when visiting.

As a aside, some years ago, some joker added cannabis to the planters outside Bath police station. It took a member of the public to spot them and do the decent thing.....:rotfl:

And it seems people are still up to the same nonsense:

Cannabis in Wales? Now there's lovely, then!

I havent read all the posts but technically speaking if the plant is in your garden, you know its in your garden and it is indeed a Cannabis plant then you have control of it. If you have control of it then you are breaking the law. I wont go into detail regarding if this would be an offence of production/possession/cultivation but if the police were to be informed you may find yourself down at your local nic.

If the loft is being cleared out, i would be very worried.

yes you are right, a rather generalised statement from me which is not useful, I guess I was trying to say that while I don't smoke or drink a large proportion of the population does one or the other or both.
