If a consumer doesn't have £549 upfront, then the iPhone is probably too expensive for them anyway.
The networks should not encourage consumers to acquire phones they cannot afford through a financially unhealthy "buy now pay later" approach.
I can't agree with this. I was planning on doing this but the cost of doing so is just £3 cheaper each month than buying with a 24 month contract. That's with the 30 day contract on 3G (unlimited data - T-Mobile) while the two year contract is with 4G (EE - 20GB).
Curiously, sticking with EE - the contract cost is £10 more each month if bought separately.
Plus I'll be saving circa £30 a month on mobile broadband as I'll be able to tether to EE.0 -

It depends who you get your sim only deal from - the One Plan from Three has been reduced to £15/£18pm depending on 12month/30day contract and works out a fair bit cheaper than going with either 3's phone deals or any other network.
FYI the One Plan is unlimited data and unlimited tethering and is the main reason I am leaving O2 to buy a 5S from Apple and use a sim-only deal.0 -

Unfortunately Three are the one network that doesn't seem to work where I live. Or anywhere I go.:D0 -
Quick question if I buy sim free from apple with the phone lock to whichever network sim goes in first? The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

No, this only happens with the Carphone Warehouse's stock of iPhones, including if they supply it "SIM-free". If you buy SIM-free from Apple, you can switch SIM cards whenever you like; I do so frequently.Quick question if I buy sim free from apple with the phone lock to whichever network sim goes in first?0 -
I don't have that cash and no apple store near me so dealing with Vodafone direct is best for me0

It's usually cheaper from Apple in the long run compared to getting a bundled iPhone and service, so you'd be better off saving up until you do have the cash. If you get it from a network, they will charge you more overall (goods + service) as you're effectively paying interest on the phone under a "buy now pay later" deal. If you wouldn't consider getting a loan to buy an iPhone, then similarly don't get the iPhone from a network eitherChristina1982 wrote: »I don't have that cash and no apple store near me so dealing with Vodafone direct is best for me0 -

On the 4g plans though, it doesnt appear to be working out that way. Unless I am missing something.0 -
That's because some networks are adding an unjustified surcharge for 4G, when it actually ought to be cheaper than 3G, given its increased capacity which allows more customers within the same spectrum. Look at Three's prices for example; these will continue when Three implements 4G later this year.On the 4g plans though, it doesnt appear to be working out that way. Unless I am missing something.0 -
I've just been told by 02 store that I can't upgrade to a iPhone 5s instore on Friday only a 5c will be available. Has anyone else heard this? At least it saves me going early to try get one although it would have been nice to have it on Friday I don't know how long it's going to take now

My friend is going instore and upgrading with o2 to the iPhone 5s on Friday, weird...0
