My mum & dad recently received an invite which I thought was brilliant. It's actually a fridge magnet (one of the flexy ones) with like a movie ticket on it, telling them all the details, so each time they go to the fridge they're reminded. I thought that was a brilliant idea! They also received another one which was fairly simple, computer typed, nice font, but on this really strange paper which was embedded with wildflowers, I thought that was beautiful and I bet it cost them nothing!0 -

I've seen something like that but the one I saw was hand-made paper but they'd printed the wording onto tracing paper which overlaid the knobbly paper so it looked a little like the protective sheets you get in photo albums IYSWIM? Even oxfam do wedding dresses, some of them are brand new with tags.

I wonder where they get them from. Jilted brides? Binge eaters?0 -

You get second hand wedding dresses on sites such as preloved and ebay as well, lots of people sell their wedding dresses but perhaps some people want to do something nice and donate them to charity, the same way people donate other clothes to charity.0 -

I'm not planning my own wedding, but I am currently helping a friend who earns a pittance plan a very low budget one. I'll be wearing a seriously cheap bridesmaid dress and doing my own hair and makeup, which she may live to regret!
I don't agree with the 'bigger the wedding, shorter the marriage' idea, that's unfair, but I do think you might be taking some posts a bit too personally. Weddings have definitely gone a bit mad in recent years, bigger, bolder, more expensive, more pressure etc.
I don't think so - I think that is just one big tier that costs £56. To make a traditional tiered cake you need to buy more than one tier.0 -

That is lovely. However that's just for the design, so let's break down the budget a little - lets say I'm having 100 guests:
Design: £9.66
100 A5 envelopes: £3.95, Amazon
100 sheets of white card: £9.83, Amazon
Total cost £23.44 for 100 invites, right? That makes me very happy!
Wait, I still have to buy ink for my printer - I have a printer, but I don't have any ink in it because I don't use it now I'm no longer a student. Cost of a black ink cartridge is £20, colour is £25. Quite expensive but, in my tight wedding budget, I can't afford to go out and buy another printer which might have cheaper ink.
So that's total cost: £68.44
Not much of a saving considering you can get 100 wedding invites on Vistaprint for £74.90.0 -

Ah, but will they be beautiful from Vistaprint? I think not
I imagine the document comes 2 to a page of A4 so only 50 sheets and lots of printer ink left over and some people may already have printer ink (not me since DSD decided to print probably the most expensive 'Happy Birthday' bunting in history using mine) but I get your gistMake £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Get a calligraphy pen, watch a video on youtube on how to use it, and write them yourself, or find someone with very neat writing to do them. I scrawled mine with a calligraphy pen really poorly, and I couldn't care less if anyone commented on how rough it was because I'd take the time to do each one by hand!0
